Once again Doo's failure to build a correct recoil has resurfaced....It is suggested that heat tape be applied to the plastic cover so the guts of the recoil do not melt.

I've heard that using a aftermarket can and heat taping your recoil helps out... Doo has almost no venting going on because of sound limits....
What are you guys doing to your recoils? I have been riding doos for 15 years and have never had a recoil issue. The new 09 has over 150 miles on it and I shut it off everytime we stop . . . recoil works perfectly. Running an HPS can btw.
from the pics I saw, yes. buddy took it apart, sanded off the melted residue off of the two pieces, put it back together and it worked again.I don't think it is heat from the exhaust that is melting the parts, its heat from internal friction on the recoil?????????????????????
Ditto: If you overheat the engine,, you might melt your recoil.. Don't! My buddy isn't so SMRT.. he overheated his engine,, melted his pull start... Don't do this.... There were some issues with the 08 & 09 pull starts,,,, but it had nothing to do with melting your pull start.... If you melt your pull start,,, it's you,,, not DOO.. EPA,,,makes DOO put all the hsit in to make them quite.. Open the engine compartment up.. Take all the foam out, let the air flow..
