09 XP recoil failure

I imagine this will need to be done to all recoils (600's and 800's) in the xp chassis?

I've heard that using a aftermarket can and heat taping your recoil helps out... Doo has almost no venting going on because of sound limits....

a 'Doo tech posted on dootalk that some parts were manufactured to the wrong specs on certain '09 recoils and are too thick, causing the plastic pawl to spin against the recoil rope pulley melting them together. there were some good pics of the melted pieces, clearly an abrasion issue and not from engine or exhaust heat. the older models problems were the plastic pin setup moulded into the cover, prone to failure when adding an aftermarket can. they were updated to steel in '02 or '03 I think, and they added a piece of heat reflective tape. upgraded my '01 after it melted, the '08 has been fine for me so far.

I'll argree on the venting, and the can does help with heat. My sled was way cooler to the touch on the top of the sled. Mine has a can, my fathers doesn't. My sled on the first ride had no recoil after about seven pulls. The dealer put an 08 recoil on and no problems.

Them Doo Doo recoils are fawking junk. Just toasted recoil # 2 today. 130 miles on the sled. FULL VENT KIT, Heat tape on both. If you look at them for 5 seconds you'll know why they sh!t the bed. 2 cent cheapass plastic.

2 in 3 rides, told my dealer to order me 40 and have them on the shelf............

What are you guys doing to your recoils? I have been riding doos for 15 years and have never had a recoil issue. The new 09 has over 150 miles on it and I shut it off everytime we stop . . . recoil works perfectly. Running an HPS can btw.

Ditto: If you overheat the engine,, you might melt your recoil.. Don't! My buddy isn't so SMRT.. he overheated his engine,, melted his pull start... Don't do this.... There were some issues with the 08 & 09 pull starts,,,, but it had nothing to do with melting your pull start.... If you melt your pull start,,, it's you,,, not DOO.. EPA,,,makes DOO put all the hsit in to make them quite.. Open the engine compartment up.. Take all the foam out, let the air flow..

I don't think it is heat from the exhaust that is melting the parts, its heat from internal friction on the recoil?????????????????????

from the pics I saw, yes. buddy took it apart, sanded off the melted residue off of the two pieces, put it back together and it worked again.

LMFAO !!!!!!!

Put down the crack pipe.

All these failed recoils are not from people baking there motor.

Fish on, I mean smoke on........

Gotta be luck of the draw. 400+km on mine...250 or 300 with the BBK...no problems. I ran an aftermarket can from day 1 and also put a bit of heat tape on the recoil face day 1...

smrt:light:

I would gladly like to have a few extra pounds of weight added to the XP to have a reliable recoil on my 09. My 08 XP has no trouble so far.

This reminds me of my 2001 800X which was junk as well. Starting the sled off the primary on a cold cold morning is just not possible.

Electric Start !!!!

OT

most trusty sted i ever had and still have is a 06 summit X with elec start.....the older series 800s are a PITA to start after a roll over, very nice with the elec start:beer;
