09 m8 with oil leak

cap on oil resivor doesnt seem to fit real well and leaks oil out of cap and cant turn any tighter or it pops off. does anyone sell a better cap or does any one have a better idea to keep oil in resivor and not all over my sled

It is melting and getting deformed. Should be covered under warranty.

Mine and my buddies are the same way. I think they get hot and the threads on the tank start to lose there shape. I have seen some where the filler neck that the cap screws on to starts to sag down. Maybe that's not what is wrong with yours...but it seems to be a common problem.

Ive seen many pics of guys that totally heat tape the whole bottle and cap to keep from absorbing the heat

Interesting didnt notice anything that looked melted but it is possible. Does anyone know of a fix if it is melted alittle?

That's a good idea. I will have to do that!

Probably not good if it pops off from turning to tight. I can turn mine as tight as i possibly can and it wont do that. If i turn it to tight it is a pita to get it off though.

melted oil tank and cap

I had to put aluminum heat tape on my 09 M8 SP oil tank and I had to replace the cap due to excess heat under the hood. The threads distort on the oil tank. Look straignt down into the tank and you will see its not round. Best bet is make them warranty it. Mine was early in season and of course they said NO PROBLEM with heat. ha

any way replace the tank and cap under warranty, then heat tape the tank.

X2....had the same problem with my old crossfire...warrenty covered both the tank and cap
