Dont count your chickens before they hatch dude. A well set up xp is hard to beat.

I think you hit it right on the head, but any well set up 800 will beat one that isn't set up well. Gotta like the situation we are in, no matter what sled you buy set it up good, then its about rider ability. Buy what you like and ride the He!! out of it. No dogs in the bunch.

I call BS on that. That new cat bumper only comes into play when the sled is laid over on a sidehill. On point and shoot there is no difference which is what the pics looked like.

The new bumper & intercooler can come into play on a hill shot, IMO. Looking at pics of my 07 M8 from last year, it held ~20 lbs of snow/ice on the back of the tunnel and behind the curved intercooler/bumper. More weight in the back could have an effect on climbing.

I put on a BDX bumper, flattened the intercooler, 09 flap, and put on a powerclaw .. incredible difference on a hill and in the deep.

Oh, and gained 200RPM on a WOT hill climb (lighter/more flexable track?), had to put in another gram to get back into the powercurve. :D

Add that all together (<snow/ice weight, <sled weight, <rotating mass, <drag, more primary weight, less trenching) and it's a huge improvement.

I'm sure the 22 lb weight loss doesn't hurt but, you have to wonder what percentage of the 2009 M series sleds new found ability can be laid squarely on the Power Claw?Frosty

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys; but isn't nearly 1/2 the weightloss from '08 the Boss seat? The track seems to be the only real big change that I can see between an '08 and an '09 if both sleds were running the same seat.:confused: Great review T/A; equallity on the hill will benefit us all, as each brand continues to try to build a product that has an edge over the others.:beer;

Isnt the Powerclaw a single ply track? If so wouldnt it be lighter b/c of the 1ply?

The '09 improvements are more than just a smaller bumper and better track.

The new bumper/tunnel holds less snow -15#s of snow/ice. Also the new track gets up on top quicker for less trenching -15#s snow/ice packed in the skid. Result is less snow/ice in the skid and on the sled, making the total weight loss much much more than just the -22# off the sled when dry in the garage.

The '09 Cats are a day & nights difference from the '07-'08s. The '09 M8's are swoppin highmarks with the mighty XP! BRP/Ski-doo will have to step it up in 2010 to keep up with the M1000.:D

No. The PC weighs the same as the old Challenger. But it spins easier and floats better.

Now only if the PC was also made in a 2.5" and 3".... That would be fun!

I have an 09 XP 163" and my bud has an 09 M8 163" and stock for stock he consistantly pulls me on a flat lake run but on a powder hill climb I usually take it to him but he weighs about 20 more pounds than I do so that also comes into play.

Bottom line, boths sleds are very nice and do well in the snow. I am not a brand crazy rider, I buy what I think works best. The selling point for me was the weight ... I doo like the 50 pound diet of the XP whether stuck in the pow or muscling it around the garage.

TA, I am out of Casper and looking to get up into the Big Horns more...in the pictures what side of the Mountain are you riding on. I was up out of Meadowlark and Dear Haven last weekend but found nothing great. I assume you are riding out of the Sheridan side. Looking to find something new,,,ride before last was up red Grade and it was nothing great.

I am getting burned out on the drive to the Snowies from Casper. I-25 is a pretty easy drive up north most of the time.

Powder Claw on a Doo

Has anyone put (or thinking of putting) a powder claw on the doo? I would like to hear some reviews. Sounds like this track is really working well.

I like pic #2 best, look how early the cat pulled out of the track poached trail. STOCK 09 153 with same weight riders beats up badly clutch SET-UP 09 d-8 163 with great rider at 4500ft., not to mention alot of xp's too, believe it or not 20 set's of eyes that day. T.A. I dont think the 16x track would have mattered much. It's real nice to see a brand loyalist put kudo's where they need to be, so the manufacturers have to wake up. Or loose a few sled sales for those who are open-minded.:face-icon-small-hap

a very good thread Wyoming TA

It is refreshing to read a thread that dosen't turn into a pis#ng contest.:D
of course the other factor is the riders. All in all some very good sleds this year. now if we could just get a few feet of powder. JD

The first track on that hill was my 154x SLP pipe and head packing 3.5gal of gas,there was no track to poach.Sure I got beat,the Cats impressive but BigJ did hop my track by accident for a ways.No excuses but I didn't know he had tracked until I looked at the picture on here.For sure the Cat beat me but not by that much anywhere else but that hill.

It must have beaten you enough to go out and buy a brand new 163 sled the week after.

Had already planned on a 163x in 2010 before he bought the M8. $11000 for 2010 or $8800 for a leftover 09 Everest.........checkbook pics the 09! Besides,the M8 is at Cutlers for a Turbo so its gameover,I'll need a Helicopter to highmark him!:beer;
