09 D8 5 flash=Pipe sensor?

Had the code cleared and it comes back on within an hour any ideas?? Goes into limp mode and poors the fuel to her..

Help!

If it goes into limp mode the flashes may be the deto sensor activating...."If the detonation condition is severe and cannot be controlled by normal means the ECU will flash the check engine light and limit the maximum engine speed to 6000 RPM to prevent engine damage."
It's my understanding that the pipe sensor leans the mix after the pipe gets hot so a bad pipe sensor would leave the sled in a rich condition.
If you don't have bad gas could a carb boot be out of the air box or cracked.

Check engine was a constant flash of 5, I still had the DET kick in a couple of times as well and had to shut it down to get it going again. Took it to the dealer and they cleared the pipe sensor code and said they didn't know what caused it and well, it happened again. Can I Ohm test the sensor or something?

The sensor kicks out a code if voltage falls below 0.06Vdc or is above 4.8Vdc. It might take Digital Wrench to check the voltage, I don't know that answer. Some have reported that their sensor was bad and it did not display a blink code.
I assume the dealer checked the wire and the plug?
I just don't see how the pipe sensor would put the sled into limp mode. We ran a resistor on the wire to the pipe sensor with the SLP pipe in 08 to keep the ECU from leaning out the fuel mix...there was no adverse reaction except for loss of power so I removed my resistor.

Thanks for the help Ron! I am lost on this, they checked nothing just stated it was an over temp cond. which creates a code and can only be cleared by Digital Wrench. I am taking the head off the motor now and going to check everything from top to bottom!

I have the same thing 5 blinks minus the "Limp" mode. Took it in, dealer said it was nothing, didn't replace sensor, cleared codes charged me $75!!!! ....rode from trailer to garage....30 yards no check engine. Re-installed PCV, 5 blinks again. Thought will i will remove PCV and see, still 5 blinks. Sled still runs pretty decent, out west rode it 400 miles with blinks and it great. At home here in MN i have a very slight bog in the mid with the blinks, that i didn't have before the check engine light. So i'm hoping to find another sensor to test to see if its the sensor. Will the blinks quit if I install a working sensor or will the it need to be cleared with the dig. wrench like last time?

I was told by Polaris that if it blinks 5 times then a pause and starts over, that is Code 5. Which means the pipe sensor has gone out. If ya put a new one on, the problem should be gone. It's crazy that me and some others I know have never lodt one but there's a couple other guys around here that have.

here is how it was explained to me.......

For the current ECU flash the sensor codes and then the system is enrichened by 10% as a fail safe. The code initiates at a specific pre-programed RPM level and duration if the voltage pulse is not within the written parameters. That is why the guy with the PCV unit may not be experiencing the "feel" like a stocker program would. It totally depends on the program setup. If you were already running in a poor state of tune leaving significant performance on the table then add 10% more fuel do to the pipe sensor code default you will certainly have a FAT LAZY DOG. This sensor does not cause a limp mode.

The DET report sensor will retard the timing and limit your maximum running RPM until the sensor no longer receives that voltage report pre-assigned to it's function. If you get a DET sensor code and your sled does go into limp mode (similar to the CHT heat response) then you shut your sled off and it should reset the system until that same level of DETONATION is experienced. Adjust fuel octane with your TPS in correct current and know that spark gap and type is critical (make sure your caps are clean and snugly fitting on the plugs...also make sure the plugs cap end is torqued and has not loosened from the body of the spark plug). The code will show on your dealers digital wrench report until cleared.

Same problem here, 5 blinks and a pause...

When this happens I burn a ton of fuel and lose about 150 RPM, the sled still runs okay but it is doing something to change the computer!

Rob, you hit the nail on the head!!

This is exactly what is happening, including the 5 times the DET sensor went off. This was even with the thing adding 10% of fuel!:face-icon-small-sho
