08 xp 800 bog

Checked the exhaust valves today... don't think they are the problem. :mad:
They were both up and depressed completely with 10" of vacuum.
Guess the search continues; keep the ideas coming. :beer;

Run it at half throttle to make it do the bogging, then keep it there for a while, do a plug test. You can put a loop electrical tester on each lead wire and see if there is consistent spark per minute... while driving. Did you drain your float bowls? you could have an annoying drip of water getting sucked up and falling back down...:confused:

Another thing you could try is to completely drain your fuel system and put some fresh fuel in there.

I did... thats also how I know the exhaust valves are fully down at 10" of vacuum. Not bad fuel either, I'm almost wondering if maybe they just screwed up with the needle height when assembled at BRP... it has done this as long as I have owned it. It isn't a terrible bog; just enough to be annoying.

Big Bog

Mine is doing it to. Seems like it is missing and then comes to life. I have been trying to ignore it. Only 100 miles on it now. Hope you figure it out.

My o8 xp 800 gets a bog after it is fully heat soaked. Takes almost 1 hour to start happening. Light throttle around 6000 rpm the engine drops down to 5000 rpm and sounds like a fouled plug. When it hits 5000 rpm it clears and goes back to 6000 rpm and starts all over. Will also happen for a split second while climbing if i let out and get back into it. Any ideas?
Stock sled except for clutching

I am having the exact opposite problem. My 08 runs great at 1/2 throttle. When you open it up it pulls hard for about 3 seconds and then bogs bad (drops from 8000 RPM to 6000 or lower). Releasing the throttle kind of resets it, but it happens every time. Removing the airbox seems to help, weird. No codes are being reported either.

Dpm dpm dpm

How does a guy troubleshoot the DPM?
I ordered a service manual but didn't get it yet.... and the dealers aren't too helpful. :(
I do have a buddy with the same sled I can rob parts from to help locate the problem but would like to have some kind of hunch on something before I go ripping it apart for no reason...

same problem i think

i think i am having the same problem. i only notice it on the trail up at around 5000 and 6000 rpm. at that rpm it jumps up and down but works fine at low rpm and high rpm. works fine once your ripping on it. first time on site.

Yup... sounds awful familiar :mad: Does it sorta go flat, then you give it just a little more throttle and it pulls like a turbo just kicked in?

Just for the record, mine still climbs awesome; strongest in the group of XP's I ride with so its not like it is down on power, just really annoying. Hope we can find the problem, gonna look into the DPM tomorrow!

I would unhook the DPM from the carbs and just let them be vented to atmospheric pressure. Then go take it for a ride and see if it still bogs (make the jetting is right for your elevation since the dpm is not hooked up though). If it doesnt bog look into the dpm.

Go on dootalk, they have more technical info with pics. Brand specific.

Good call... did that and found LOTS of things to check! My sled is at my shop so i can't look at it right now but one guy mentioned a tube that gets melted shut on the exhaust and i remember seeing that on mine! The fix is to snip off the burnt end; real tough!!! Hope thats it, will know first thing tomorrow!!! :beer;:beer;:beer;

Good call II...
Does anyone know what these sleds are jetted for "sans DPM"???

Rep for both of ya!!! :):):)

I would do that very test. Pull the hose leading into the DPM, and see if if it changes. It Jet down one size at a time until it clears up. That is all you need.

I remember when I broke my DPM fitting, and it would sputter in mid range, then be ok in WOT.

I would not recommend that you re- hook up the DPM after you rejet, you could lean out the motor if the DPM does work.

Good luck.

yammy1320 i hope you fixed it with that melted hose. let me know please. i am so busy unable to check my sled for a few days.

Nope... followed the melted hose to the coolant jug. Did some more digging on 'Dootalk and the symptoms are common to a carb issue... Pretty sure its the carbs; talked to a new dealer who sounds willing to work with me on this. I will post updates...

same problem i think

1320 thank you for keeping me updated. Riding up in sprott lake at whistler on friday. Hope it will not do it. Keep me updated on your progress and thanks again.

Hope yours isn't an 08.... found out today that they expect me to buy new carbs for $1700.00...... even tho they will admit they have had manufacturing issues. Gonna swap them with a buddy's carbs on a known good 08 XP to confirm the problem, then get after BRP if I can prove it.
