08 XP 163...best mountain sled EVER built bar none!!!

Seems to me that the majority of people whining about the XP don't even own one.

I had the oppurtunity to ride a XP and it flat out hauls...no other stock machine that will keep up with it..if I were buying a new sled, it would be the XP. Right now I ride an 1150 and this sled has made me serious considering going back to stock...IT IS THAT GOOD!!!!

You here about all the failures, but remember guys, this site is a very small, and probably skewed representation of what's out there. It would be interesting to see how many failures there actually are and what percentage of all sales they are having issues compared to other manufactures is it really any more (besides yammaha, possibly). I bet not, why do you see it more..because there are so many more out there, simple as that. Ski-doo out sales all others by 2-1, so you should see twice as many as ALL the other manufactures!!! 10 years ago in my riding area I was the only one on doo, now about 3/4 of all sleds up there appear to be doos. (By the way I am riding a AC based engine).

Is the marketing good...probably, but no better than Arctic cats,(I think Arctic Cats marketing is the best EVER...have you seen some of their sales pitch, they're awesome!) so why do they sell more, because they work, in spite of the apparent problems. People have hopped over to the DOO side because what they have had in the past wasn't able to keep up with BPR's new chassis. Doo has gotten to be number one in the market because right NOW they are the best stock sled out there, PERIOD!

Do they have there issues, but not unlike any other company out there( again, maybe with the exception of yamaha, but they don't have a 2 stroke). Remember polaris crank issues, oh wait, they still have crank issues don't they...not according to Polaris!!

With that said, would I buy one? I'm in the process of looking for a 163 XP right now, I'm THAT close to buying one!!!!...and givining up my 1150!!! I rode REVs in the past and couldn't wait to get back on my 1150, after riding my friends XP, I didn't want to get back on my 1150!!!

Handling was superb, flickability was incredible, and the low and mid range pull was satisfying enough to consider giving up my 1150.....funnest sled I've ever been on, can't wait to jump on her again VINCE!!!! LOL This sled will beat all other stock sleds, including 1000cc, and probably alot of mods, if it doesn't, it's either rider or they haven't made clutching adjustments, which all stock sleds need!

I am even strongly considering this sled over the M8 Turbo that I was sure I wanted.

Again, the majority of people pointing out all the flaws don't even own one, I honestly think that it makes all you non XP owners feel a little better about your purchase!

All just my opinion of course!!!

Ive got some seat time on a 146 and 154. They seem to pull a little hander than my rev. Nice sled, but i think i would be a little worried about being in the back country with 1. When this sled gets all the problems solved, watch out

Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself.................if you like so much just go and buy it.

I've only seen three XP's in person thus far

I had to pick up the first one's belt (part of it anyways) he'd left on the trail 3 miles from the trailhead.

the second one was about to loose a belt or engine or something, so he wouldn't climb the hills at all, it sounded terrible engine noise wise. He was babying the hell outta it afraid it'd break and make him get towed out.

the third one was in the back of his truck, quit the day early due to belt issues

none of these guys are on SW 4m (or they lie)

dunno man, odds aint good

I don't doubt for a second it would be a killer machine if it worked proper, but it don't so thats that.

if you buy an XP pay special attention to this thread http://snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51677

My friend's broke his shaft over 4 big hills...they had to replace it on the mountain. Not a machine i'm going to buy anytime soon. They are impressive right now as far as climbing but i'll keep my 1000.

Wow, what intense testing

You rode your buddies sled for a little while and you're calling it the best ever? That statement might mean something in May from someone who has put a couple thousand miles on one over the course of the season. BTW, it was leaked at Rexburg MS that 75% of them are coming back with problems.

I think they're kinda cool but since I'm not buying ANY sled this season I'll wait until next Fall and give the cream time to rise to the top before I buy.

My riding partner has a 154 XP. Awesome sled. is reliable enough to take anywhere. Has about 400 miles on his current belt and looks new. He jumped right on the clutching problems with these sled right away and has no problems. We see quite a few other xp's out when we are riding and i would say about 90% of them have not done anything with their gearing or clutches an when you open the side panel there are belt shreds on most all of them. They are a great sled but you do need to tend to their issues first.

Amen, Revpilot. The new rides are proclaimed as the greatest things since canned brewskis until they are put in the hands of Joe sled rider and then all sorts of things start showing up. End result, in many cases, is that the new $11 grand+ sled is resting at the dealer waiting for the fix. I'm with you, wait till next fall and see which ones rise and which ones fade.

Snowmanx,
Way to off!! Maybe you should buy 2 or 3 of these things! Wow.
I'm thinking that your comment that the XP will beat the 1000cc's must be from your experance riding the Ski Doo 1000's. But if you ment the AC M1000I think the only way an out of the box XP could beat the M1 would be if the XP grew arms and beat the M1000 with a stick..
It is clear that you have never lined the sleds up and run them against each other. Some of us have, and we know better.
However, the XP is a very nice sled. I have ridin them. They are fun sleds to ride.

i only have bout 120 miles on mine..and it was just starting to wake up! so far i'm impressed with the ride! even with the crappy clutching set-up..it rocks! i know they have their issues...but one way or another..they are going to be dealt with! i know this sled has great potential! once the clutching is figured out(thank you DJ)..to me it will be that much better!! :D

That's the key right there, you need to take care of a few issues.:D

I've seen it up against the M1000, and Crazy Canadian was on the 1000, he perferred the XP and when we got in a tough spot he choose to ride the XP to get us out. The M1000 didn't highmark the XP, this was two days of riding and Davidoff rode both, same day, same conditions, same hill.:beer;

If I could afford it, I probably would buy a couple. And a turbo apex, and a turbo M8!!:D:beer;

Why would it mean more? Maybe you need a whole season to see if a sled is good or not, but when I can hop on a sled and it feels like I've been riding it all season I don't need that much time to see what it can or cannot do.

I would like to get one this season, but when it comes down to it I'll probably still be riding my 1150 this time next year. However, I'll be watching these sleds to see what goes wrong with and what the fixes are so when and if I decide to get one I'll get her fixed up right.

Just remember boys, all in fun and everyone has an opinion, this sled has just impressed me that much.

I have ran into about 10 xp's on the mountain that I have talked to. 2 had handwarmers that did not work, 4 had belt problems, and one was being towed out from a broken drive shaft.
I know another guy through a buddy of mine with a 154 and a 163. both go through alot of belts. The 163 had handwarmers go out and the 154 had a knock sensor go out.
Mine went through two stockers at about 30 miles a piece and a xs803 in 100 miles. Handwarmers have ben out for a couple weeks and I am getting pissed and tired of riding with frozen hands. Doesn't sound like they will have hand warmers any time soon either. Trip meter resets itself all the time and my oil cap leaks oil all over.
If this thing breaks a drive shaft I am going to tell brp to shove it up their &#@. Alot of places I ride towing it out will be very hard to not possible. I think I am going to take it to a welder/fabricator I use to have him weld it up this week. I don't trust BRP on this drive shaft issue so I am fixing it myself like I geared it myself and bought the gear myself. About ready to fix the handwarmers myself.
Not exactly the most satisfied customer. I can't wait to get a customer survey.

Actually New Years day we spent an hour or so drag racing sleds. my buddys xp would stay right next to the 1000 Cat. The guy on the Cat could not believe it. Another buddy has a 1000 Cat with twin pipes and nitrous. He did not have the Nitrous turned on and he would out pull the xp after about 50 feet. He has had problems keeping it running good tho. Said he is about ready to put it back to stock...another buddy has the races on film. He is still trying to figure out how to put it on dvd. On another note i hear Ski Doo is supposed to be announcing next years sled in two weeks. 1000cc in the XP chassis. around 475lbs with 180 hp.

I said it before. If you keep blowing belts there is a problem and if you refuse to fix it then it becomes YOUR problem. I haven't had any problems, yet. Close to 400 miles and still have both my stock belts.

Yes I vented, cleaned, and adjusted my cluthes. But so did everyone else we ride with and I still have yet to see with my own eyes a blown belt on an XP.

My buddies m1000 has had more problems and we have the same amount of miles. Whats up with that???

I can't figure out how people blow 10 belts in 300 miles........

Maybe the dealer has them set bad, thats a place to look into, $hitty dealer.

Chaz

One guy in our group has a XP. Guess what, he's gone through a belt at 300 miles, had hand warmer problems, and oil leaking out from around the cap. The sled does highmark well for a stocker and the dealer warrantied the belt and hand warmers.

i thought this thread was gonna be a funny, but i guess he was serious:) best sled for breaking down, blowing motors, nose diving, blowing belts, losing electrical, drive shafts breaking, overheating, oil leaking, hand warmers not working, did i forget anything else this sled is the best at???

800Poo...... I agree with you. I got to run side by side with a M1000 this weekend. My brother and I were drag racing up a hill, 75 yards of flats and then 75 yards uphill. My brother has a M8 thats ported, cheater head, SLP pipe, remapped fuel, and everything lightweight (he weighed it at around 440lbs, 530 full of fuel and oil ready to ride). I have an 01 ZX with 159, RKT head, Turboal porting, and is setup very well. The M1000 had some sort of pipe or can on it, it was pretty loud. After my brother and I raced a couple times the M1000 decided to line up with us......... He only lined up twice, and we got him both times. My brother and were going back and forth, whoever got the hole shot usually was first up the hill. I was right next to the M10 and our hole shots were about the same. I pulled him by about 1/2 sled length on the flats and then we were equal when we hit the hill. I know the M10 should be a faster sled, and be able to pull me on hills, but I have yet to see it. I have yet to run one in really deep powder, and I'm sure it would outclimb me, but so far, I'm not impressed. My brother rode against a M10 that was piped and setup well at Mt. Baker. He said the M10 could barely beat him, about 1/2 sled length most of the day. I don't see why a good running stock XP couldn't run with a stock M10 all day long.

They do run with the 1000's!!! :D
