08 Spindles, Weight?

I removed some material from my spindles on my 08 IQ Shift. Curious as to how much weight I dropped from them. I had thought about buying Holz Spindles, but everyone says the steering with the 08s is about as good as Holz, so the only reason for buying them would have been looks. Which at $300 seemed silly. So I attacked my factory ones with a combo of hole saws, drill bits, plasma cutter, and a carbide burr. This is the result.

They are weighing in at 2lbs 7oz after I sanded them down for paint. So add a few ozs probably for paint. I will re-weigh them before I reinstall but just curious what the factory 08 spindles are weighing in at.

I noticed in your pictures that the ski bolt bushing is in your spindle, was it in when you put it on the scale? Without that bushing in, mine were 40.6 oz or 2.54 lbs. These are from a standard 08 RMK. I hope this gives you some idea.

I agree with Mandic, there is more weight there than needed, So with a die grinder and carbide bit, we went to work and ended up with this. Actually was with the help of a friends cnc machine.

Craig yours were the inspiration to me to do mine. I had just intended to clean them up, sand a bit, and paint until I saw yours, ha.

I left the bushing in right through paint. It didn't dawn on me that I had done it until I saw a disucssion somewhere else about lubrication of the bushings, ha. So they will be coming out and I am going to try and install a grease fitting to lube them with the skis on.
