08 recoil trouble 800ho

i have been having some issues with the recoil on my 08 mountain not engaging when it's warm anyone else out there have the same problem?does anyone have a simple fix?it only does it when it's warm a pain in the ***!gotta throw snow on it to get it started!arrgghh!

Hi, I just went through this on a rev. in this case the tip on the plastic paw inside of the recoil wore off. I just replaced the paw, and it has been fine ever since. It was a fairly simple fix, and any ski doo dealer will normally have a few on hand. It is usually from the pawl not totally setting into the notch when starting. I have found that if you pull the engine through (pull it over slowly) a few times before starting it, they start much easier, and dont break the tip of the paw off as much. I have seen this a few times on ski doos, and they were all 800's

If the tip of the paw didn't wear off it is probably the o-ring. The o-ring causes the friction and makes it swing out and sometimes the o-ring gets hard or flattens out.

Us too.

Out of all the Hawks in the group we had an 05 600 do this, just took it apart and putt back together.
Jeeper you have that machine now.

Obviously a Ski-Doo issue.

One AD Boivin related issue though, pull cord pulleys can pop off and cord will be cut on upper cog, remove and cut the circlip groove deeper.

I Went Throught This On 2 600's, 07 800 And Now 08 800. I Needed To Remove Recoil Clean The Starter Pawl And O-ring. Applied A Very Small Amount Synthetic Grease And Never Had A Problem. I Have Noticed Some Riders That Just Jerk The Recoil Tend To Have More Problems. I Try To Pull The Cord Until I Feel The Pawl Catch. Just Some Thoughts.

I agree, the sneak attack method of starting the sled does seem be a bit rough on the equipment. I also like to pull the engine through (pull it over slowly) a couple of times on a cold start too, they start much easier, and I dont pull my hawk over when it gets real cold out!
