Just looking for some opinions on the 07 700 from some of you who have rode them. I have NEVER been a polaris fan at all..owned one and was total junk...but that was in the 90's. The newer ones seem a bit better built to me. anyway, too good of a deal to pass up really...just want to know how well they run. thanks

This is funny...I was just talking to Mike Cassidy about them yesterday. They run great. They get good mileage (about 80mi per tank as compared to 65mi on the new 800s). My dad has an 07 800.

My impression of the Sportsmans....
Dependable. Sturdy. Workhorse.

Mike thought the engine breaking system costs some miles per tank as you have to be on the throttle more after coasting. Makes a lot of sense to me.

How do they run top end? For high speed cruising on open county roads? One thing I like about the can-am is that it is nothing at all to go 60-65 with out felling like it is going to blow. Top speed is almost 80! Not that I am buying a big 4 wheel drive to race with but just nice to have on a real long open stretch.
A can-am would be choice #1, but with the deal on this polaris..........I almost can't afford not to do it. At least for now...maybe get what I really want later.

my neighbor has an 05. that thing is so slow i couldn't believe it. racing on the lake i would get him 30-40 lenghts in a 1/2 mile on my 660 with bald tires.
i think his is a twin. have they changed them since 05.

I have 3k miles on mine and only routine maintenance. In my opinion the sportsman only competition is a Honda, but they are more for work than for recreation. I use mine for everything from farming to hunting to recreation. This is my 4th Polaris and have not had any major problems other than a cv boot or three (either stuck a stick or barb wire in there to take them out), a bent axle (slide sideways into a tree), and a starter(on the 94 explorer they mounted on the bottom of the motor that ran in the water and mud) I have thought about other atvs but always come back to the Polaris, could because that's what I ride or they are the best for me. You won't be disappointed with the 700, good power and not a gas guzzler.
