My 06 has 5,000 mi on it and I have never touched my PV's. It still runs great. I dont plan on touching them as long as it runs good. I think you should be able to tell by the sleds preformance. It could be just the oil I have been using too. I have always ran Amsoil Interceptor until last year, now Skidoo semi/syn.
You should clean them AT LEAST once a season.
Just take out the allen screws that bolt to the motor and the whole thing will come out. Just use some engine degreaser or carb cleaner and she should wipe clean.....unless you have 5,000 miles on them...then it might take awhile.

its so easy to do, why not do it?? its called preventative maintnence, it sucks when things like this stick when your out riding and you have a bad day because you dont want to clean a little.
I try to do mine at LEAST once a season, it doesnt run BADwhen they stick, but i can tell they stick open now and then by the sounds.

you should check the o rings under the red caps too. mine were toast and it was causing a hesitation at low rpm.
