06 600efi

A friend is looking at buying a 03 600MC EFI for his wife. The sled is unmodified and has 2700 miles on it. Looks like it's perfect, what should the compression be and when typically do these things need a refresh?

Thanks

600

The compression should be around 120. If it hasn't had new pistons I would be for doing it now. I have seen a lot of locating pins come out of the rings on these engines at about that mileage. When that happens the ends of the rings can get in the exhaust ports and catch and break or just wear on the top of the port and loose compression gradually. SPI makes a good inexpensive piston for that engine.

I meant to say 03 not 06 in the title. How hard is it to put new pistons in?

I was kinda thinking it might be time to rebuild but do you think 2500 for this sled is too high?
