05 zr 900 121-144

My buddy got a 05 zr 900 EFI and after buying it he went and bought the kit from tracks usa to go to a 144x15x1.5. Im going to help him do the extension because this is his first sled. Ive never worked on a 900 and just wondering do they have any major problems I should also look over for him? And when we go riding what rpms should it pull its all stock. I was thinking 8400 but im just guessing. Now if this was my sled I would mod it right as I got it :) but I told him to keep it stock so you dont have to dick with it(or i guess me dicking with it ha) But if he does want to do some mods what are good options for the efi sled? do you have to get a fuel box to go with mods or is the efi smart enough to compensate? Sled has low miles but if it was me I would of just bought a kk that was ready to ride :beer;. Thanks

The ZRs shouldn't have any major problems as the main one is the left driveshaft bearing, but the ZR has the diamond drive. Totally stock it should only run ~7400 RPM. Anything over 8 is pretty fast for this motor. If you mod much at all you will need a control box.

Do you happen to have a 1M that you could compare some measurements for me? I was wondering how much different the driveshaft location is between the ZR and the 1M?

Thanks

Wow really that low? does it have a huge stroke compared to the bore? I dont have any 1ms to measure but I can tell you what the distance is and you can compare it to yours if you want

The stroke is 76mm, bore is 85mm on the stock 900 (862). That measurement would be nice, thanks.

I've also never been around them that much. I'm sure someone else will chime in though. Any specific questions you have about that, you could try the M-series forum. Any other chassis/motor questions are better off here.

when doing the extension you will want to get mountain cat coolers because the ZR has a hose that runs across the tunnel for the heat exchanger, the track will hit that and trust me it is not a pretty sight if i remember correct the coolers were off a 03-04 800 with a 144

You can look at a parts diagram for the diamond drive. Check out post on switching the track on an M7 and you will find everything you need to know. Be sure to check and probably change the bearings in the drive. You will need to look and make sure how much clearance you have up front, make sure you can swing a taller paddle, I assume he is going taller.
