05 Fusion, Lower control arm snapped, nothing hit.

Kinda scary issue,, held on as lower control arm snapped and went into ground,, lucky i was only going 50 or 60 when it happened. (Fast trail)

Must have cracked last season from somthing,, corrosion set in,, and just flyin down a road,, BaHHMMMMM, snow started flyin from the bar going straight down like a rutter !!
So when i looked, it was the rear pipe from that arm,, but the front pipe of the lower arm was fractured about 10hrs around... Had to get back, was alone, and knew when that next pipe breaks belly's gonna hit ground and ski and shock will bend all over.. So i roped it up like pic shows, and baby'd it 30 miles,, about 20mph. (Ya, thats the speed and RPM that suck's on a 9)
Accually made it back... When you lifted on the nose, the crack opend up about 1/2mm... Scarry..
All welded up now, sleeved inside tube and re-weld..

WOW, I just welded mine up like 2 days ago, mine rear tube on the right side snapped just before the sway bar gusset closest to the sled. i did the same thing welded a tube inside. but when it did snap not only did i get lucky i noticed it just at the end of the day at the truck, but also 2/3 of it was rusty meaning it was broken for awhile. mine also started cracking from the top down... which i can't for the life of me figure out why or how. and i haven't hit anything.

question- are you still running the sway bar.

Yours was same spot as mine !! I think it's the gusset weld gets rust,, then changes the metal locally,, then snap.
My right lower arm looks fine,, but i do see rust staining at top where the weld is from gusset... In off season i want to paint them a color,, so when i take it off i will have my buddy grind clean it and weld up gusset from bottom side,, just close it up.
Thats some dangerous break man,, just prior to the snap i was crankin 100,, 80 to 100 thumbin it on a awsome road..

I see Arctic Cat hada recall on this,, same issue.. Polaris,, i have not heard too much on this.. Tubes don't snap, they bend,,,,,, this sucker snapped like a dry stick !!

My lower left side did the same a couple years ago. Rust and snapped doing 60 just climbing. Lucky only a windshield was lost and shock shaft also bent. Also sleeved inside tube and found a pipe to fit outside, welded it up after cleaning rust, no problems since.

On the bold, 6-7 year old rusty tube= dry stick, same thing.

yea. wierd eh. when i looked down my tube there was no rust really. i wonder if the sway bar puts to much stress there over the years?
