I have an 03' 800 Vertical Escape 159. One of the recommended SLP mods is to plug the cylinder decompression holes.

What is involved with this? Do you recommend it? What is the true gain? What is the easiest way to accomplish it?

Advise is appreciated.

The easiest way is to drill and tap them from the exhaust outlet side.

But I wouldn't spend the time or money unless I was freshening the motor.

I would recommend it. I got rid of my 2003 800 because it couldn't keep with my buddies 2002 800 rmk. It makes a significant difference in top end. The reason why polaris put those decompression holes in was to make it easier to start. That's why the 2002 800's are harder to start. So I sold mine and bought an 02 and I am very happy with it. I did this before I found out that you could get those compression holes fixed.
