Arctic Cat factory backcountry riders Dave McClure and Rob Kincaid routinely have two of the most popular Arctic Cat mod sleds on the snow. This year is no different, with each rider running a Speedwerx supercharger mod sled, a Speedwerx stage build, and a handful of other Cats.
And the finished product has always been someting along the lines of a masterpiece. Rob and Dave have kind of created an inside battle with each other on whose mod sleds gather the most attention at snow shows and on social media. The bets get pretty entertaining. But they’ve paid off for the fans of the sport, because these Cat builds get pretty wild.
Rob Kincaid’s 2019 Custom Hardcore Alpha One
We talked to Jason Nethercott of Wild West Customs about Kincaid’s sled. “This sled started out as a 2019 Hardcore 153,” Nethercott says. “We did the Alpha upgrade on it, which includes the rail and the 154 Alpha track. We added the IceAge Elevate kit with some Fox Kashima-coated shocks. We’re running the Arctic Cat accessories front bumper, rear bumper and running boards. We installed the Mountain Fit hood and put an LED light on it. It has a TKI belt drive that drops a lot of weight off the sled. The power comes from a Speedwerx supercharger. It’s close to the stock weight with a lot more get up and go.”
Nethercott says there’s a lot of ways to configure and tune the supercharger setup, but they’ve found more than enough power on a pump gas tune.
“We’re getting 225 on straight pump gas. That’s 8 to 8.5 pounds of boost here at 6,500 feet,” says Nethercott.
