Dave McClure’s 2019 Alpha One 165
Dave McClure has always wanted to do a sled build and wrap design that was a throwback to the 1996 Arctic Cat ZRT sleds, with flashy checkered flags and bright purple, orange and green.
“This year I did a throwback 1996 ZRT-style wrap that I’ve been wanting to do for the last couple years,” McClure says. “Octane Ink came up with this and I think they knocked it out of the park.”
Under the hood, there’s a few parts to bump the horsepower and drop some weight.
“We put a Stage 2 kit from Speedwerx on this sled,” says McClure. “The kit does 180 horsepower and drops 18 pounds of weight. It makes this sled super fun to ride. More power, significant weight loss, and it’s super reliable, too. And the TKI belt drive makes it even lighter.”
McClure adds, “I put the Arctic Cat accessory running boards on. These ones are the billet boards. They have the Pro Mountain and the Billet versions, I like the billet boards better. They’re harder to install, but they’re good.”
Our biggest question for McClure was about why he choses to run the Powder Pro skis. He says, “A lot of people ask me why I still run SLP Powder Pro skis. I like them. I like an aggressive ski. There’s a couple rides a year when the snow is set up and they’re a little too aggressive, but 90 percent of the time they’re perfect for me.”
