I currently ride an 04 viper, and was looking at buying a 2008 holdover M8 153 or M1000 162. Anybody have any input in why I should or shouldnt buy one or the other? Thanks, Jeff

50/50 boondocking and climbing. How much does the 1000 weigh compared to the 8? Did any 2008's come with the powder claw, or just all challengers?

I guess it depends. My buddy just bought a 1000, I thought I wanted one too but after getting off my M8 and riding his 1000, I didn't like the weight. His is light for a 1000, and mine is light for an M8 but there is a noticeable difference. I would say try to ride both, but I'll probably always stay with an 8.

You won't even notice the weight

I switched this year from a 00 MM 700 to an 09 M1000. Everyone keeps talking about the weight between the M8 and the M1000 but you won't really notice the difference (They are both lighter and easier to ride than a viper). I went with the 1000 for the extra power and love it. Do keep in mind that the 2010 M8 is suppost to have 160 hp. The main thing between the M8 and M1000 is that if you pipe the 1000 you need a boondocker box and the 8 doesn't need that. So it might cost a little more to mod but the 1000 still has more power. I guess what i meant to say is don't focus on the weight so much cuz you will overthrow both until you get used to it.

M8

i ride a 2008 M8 162 lightend up by alot and my buddy as a 2009 M8 sno-pro 1000 lightend up by alot too and if your an experienced rider id stick with the M8 because any where my buddy was going with his 1000 i was right behind him so it kinda really depends on the rider you are as well

Blue to Green

I switched from 2001 mm700 to 05 m7 and never looked back. What u r going to ride now will be whole diff. ballgame no matter if u pick m8 or m1000. I just got 09 m8 for the wife, she was on the mm700 now she can't believe she rode the old bathtub for that long, welcome to the green. There will be a learning curve, but for what we like to do light is right, go m8, just my 2cents.

I still say the 8. People say that because you are coming off a yami either one is light, but that's like saying buy a Grand Am over a Porsche because anything is fast compared to your Metro. Both good sleds, the you can lose a lot of weight off both sleds, and add a lot of power to both sleds. You can get the 800 close to 165 or so with mods, and the 1000 around 210. The track deal is a deal from Cat to sell off holdover sleds. However, it was mentioned that "Cat" takes the old track back, that is incorrect, the Dealer takes the track back. It's their choice on whether or not you keep it. Unless they brought that deal back on the 2nd though, that deal has past.

As far as mods, the 1000 will almost always need a fuel controller for anything you do to it. You can get away with some stuff on the 8 w/o a box but you have to be careful. I say if your a big buy, buy a 1000, if your a little dude, get an 8.

im about 6'2, weigh 180, I think i like the sounds of the 8 better since I wouldn't need the fueling box. So were they putting the new tracks on the M8's as well?

If you put an slp pipe kit on an M8 which doesnt require a boondocker, you have 159hp and 8 less lbs, the 1000 has 163 so thats a better power to weight ration, and almost as much power, but the 1000 will still have more torque.
