……..
First ride today. 9R 155x2.75 bone stock other than Diamond ti quiet can. 72 grams 6,000 to 8,300’ elevation.
Low end has the quick response I want - transfer body weight, give it throttle, point & shoot and it chews snow and keeps on going. Sled is flat out fun. I will check for ethanol mode setting from the factory as JH@CM suggested as I am running non ethanol in it.
Only negative complaint is the brake flash put me into limp mode few times throughout the day.
The plug for the brake switch is literally 4” down the wire.

Unplug it.

Looks like pulling the brake fuse is another way to disable the brake. Power sourced from that fuse runs directly through the brake switch (according to wiring diagram, I haven't tested).

Do you need to swap the secondary as well? Is the reason for running the P85 more performance or knowing how to "tune" it? I have an old P85 in my garage I am debating on sending out to get lightened, balanced and serviced ?
The difference between the two was enlightening.
Yes, it may be the tuning knowledge or the lack of available P22 tuning parts.
You don’t need to switch the secondary. You only need a belt deflection bolt and nut.

72 grams, 8300-8600 RPMS
You don't have a 300 rpm range. You get on a hill, you pull it pinned for 3 seconds. That's your RPM. If it's bouncing around 300 RPM you sled has issues... 8600 is way too high if that's the RPM your sled is holding.

Limp mode sounds around 5000 RPM but I couldn’t see the screen as the brake warning fills the display screen. And yes - pinned it stays level at that RPM when in limp mode.

I misunderstood turboless terry - I was pulling 8300-8600 when not in limp mode with brake light switch unplugged.

a little off topic.. anyone know the torque specs for the P22 clutch cover bolts?
hard to tell because they have red assembly/ like blue loctite on the 6 bolts! spec on a P85 is 7 Lbs..I would just use maybe 8-10 lbs. remember the cover has 165 lbs of spring pressure on those 6 bolts..wont go anywhere. just be careful pulling and putting those bolts in and out...I run taps through the sheave to free them up going back in...I broke one right away before I noticed...

I got my 9r yesterday and saw the clutching specs, my first thoughts are the clutching is lame in the secondary. In my 22 850 i used a 60 44 with blk purple and mags in the primary. That sled was very fast. I pulled the stock 56 42 helix out and put the 60 44 in , as the stk spring is also blk purple, removed the 72g weights and put in 78s.
Btw im at 4 to 5k feet.
Im hopping to get out soon for my first ride.
Buraunt has a kit and is testing both epi and boondocker weights.
Im waiting for slp to release thier mag weights.

9r 155x2.75 khaos with stock high elevation clutching (14-72). At 6-7500ft in non-eth rpm 8600-8750 and sometimes hitting rev limiter. Switched to eth mode rpm 8450-8550 and have put on around 200km like this. Just picked up some 14-74 on warranty from my dealer and was hoping they would be the ticket, but after reading this post its sounding like I may need 76.... Anyways, I'll try these free 74s and go from there.

Thanks everyone for your reports!

Just hitting 100mi now. Been riding mostly between 8-10k ft with 9R 165 and stock weights at 72g. I find myself almost a little scared to over rev the sled when in the lower elevation range. Interested in trying 74/76g. Opinions from the gallery on whether stock are the best to try or adjustable from SLP, Bikeman or others?

The good news is, at 8500-8600rpm it absolutely rips. Saw 50+mph on gauge a couple times today too on moderate climbs fully shifted around 8k ft.

Wish we had some dyno info to tune to the actual sweet spot. Funny that the manual says optimal is 8250 +/- 150 for all of 850, boost, and 9R. Could it be true?

my 165, high elevation, with 78 miles on it will hit 8600 at 3/4 throttle, riding 7500-9000 ft. seems like the stock 14-72s are too light
pretty nervous about over revving this motor. have already read/heard about 3-4 failures, 3 of which sound crank related

I have the Indy Specialties P85 kit. I rode it yesterday and Dan has the kit dialed pretty well for 6-9000'. The engagement is a bit a high, 4300, but man does the sled hook up and have some legs. It holds 8350 and has great shifting characteristics.

I’m putting the spi 78s on mine. If the 8,350 number is correct, I’m over by 300 rpm with the stock 72s. Definitely makes me nervous too.
The other option is going with a p85 setup. I just really want to make the lighter weight p22 work.

78 is too much. Go 76. 76 worked good today in Seeley.
