ZR8000 muffler shootout

I have the MPX silencer as well and just ordered one for my 13'. It's got a great sound and now that I see those dyno numbers I am even happier. Can't beat it for the price and being repackable I should never need a new one (unless cat decides to change the outlet again).

Nice work Jim :beer;

Ive been a DT subscriber for quite a few years and the "coming soon" forum would be a nice addition . IMO
I miss the old performance/mod section on here

Nice test,,, i hope its ok to post this. Jaws ran 170hp at 8300. The stock sled runs 155 hp at 7800. I have the jaws pipe and was trying to get it to hit 8500 and it wouldn't , now i know why:face-icon-small-coo

So......155 hp at 7800 is the highest hp numbers for stock? Wha are the hp numbers at 8000 and 8200 stock? Don't get it, why wouldn't it hit 8500?

He had added timing to the Jaws pipe. Without timing, itll make peak power at a higher rpm

I re read the dynotech article and it said nothing about a timing key except that it comes in a DD riot kit.
Jim also tested this Jaws pipe W/O a jaws can WTH ! Who is going to spend the coin on a pipe ,Y pipe and run the stock heavy can ???
so as I said I just re read it so here is the numbers
Jaws pipe , Y pipe and stock can. 166.9 @8100 164.2 @ 8200 and 153.8 @8300
He made up to 170 HP after installing a restricter into the stock can and leaning out the PCV map. So unless your going to tune on a dyno ,,, its not 170

Yes, but even at the 170HP, he is generous on fuel.

He is pulling or adding timing through PCV with timing control. No need to add a key and get timing everywhere. Add it where you need and pull it where you don't.

I can't figure how to insert a jpeg (asking for a URL address and I'm clueless on that). So here's the best HP we got from each muffler. For tech details like weight/ dB/ airflow/ backpressure and graphic comparison showing midrange torque/ HP curves and overrev power I'll try to post that tonight or tomorrow on my website. Also we still have more testing to do since the MBRP muffler should be here this week, and we still have to test SLP and BMP mufflers (got lost in the shuffle). So far all mufflers are good and often power varies with backpressure but not always. Ran each muffler two or more times, with coolant varying from 115 to 125f. This is the best HP from each (except we don't count the first test of the day with stock muffler--that nice cool crankshaft and crankcase gives us extra HP we don't count here--heat soaked only). Not shown here is the stock muffler with an insert to make it more like the 2010 mufflers, will have that on my website. Plus we got the Jaws single combo dialed in with spot-on PCV and Boondocker maps. It's a good A-B test that can be compared to our 2011 pipe shootout.

STOCK 155.2

SANDALE 156.3
DIAMOND S (titanium) 160.8 (highest sea level backpressure of the cans)
MPX 157.2
D&D 156.8
SNOWSTUFF RUMBLE PACK 155.1
JAWS TRAIL 156.1
HPS 156.1

Phase 2 SLP, BMP, MBRP (and anything else we can get) next week?
