Yellowstone Park - Worth it?

Been coming from the flatland to ride at Tog for a while now. A friend of mine who has never came along says he wants to go this winter, but wants to take a day or two to rent sleds and ride in Yellowstone Park. My question is, is it worth it? I think it's the last year? I go out west to snowmobile not run 45 mph and stay on the trail. Would it be worth my time to see the park at least once? THanks

Oh hell yeah! Went when you could ride your own sled and loved it!! Comepletley different than summer, stay overnight in West Yellowstone or Old Faithful.
That way you can take some time to see it all.

First you should zip over to Land Use and jump on the Yellowstone Winter Use Plan thread and send your comment so you can use the park then by all means go see it. It's a totally different perspective in winter.

Allied - Saw all the B.S. that's going on with them talking about shutting it down. Sounds like they're gonna stick to the same rules as last year?

Guess my hangup is that from what i've read you have to stay on the trail, can only go up to 45 mph, .....? I'm married with 2 little kids coming from WI, not a whole lot of free time to take trips without the family. I'd rather use my away time doing stupid sh!t on a mountain.

Riding in YNP

Bearpaw,
Snowmobiling in the YNP gets alot of press the whole country gets to read about. Keeping sleds in the YNP is important. Any time we as a group can comment our opinions, it's important that we do so wheather we use certain areas or not. Comment when you can, joins SAWS if you aren't a member and be as active and vocal as you can no matter where you live or what area is on a HOT list. If WE use the mountain west WE have to support it. Numbers matter here. The oposition has many. That being said, the YNP is worth one trip thru for the unique features the park has to offer in winter. I took my kids thru once and it was fun. When we look back at that day everyone agrees it was worth it. Just like summer thou, once is enough if you bring a good camera and take alot of pics.

Don't forget that you will be riding rented machines in a group with a hired guide at 45 on groomed roads.

Don't expect to see the whole park in one day.

It was a wonderful place to sled , MANY YEARS AGO.

"Therefore, SAWS prefers a modified Alternative 3 allowing 720 snowmobiles per day with 180 (25%) of these snowmobiles per day allowed for unguided or non-commercially guided use."

I agree, it used to be alot better but if we do nothing it never will get better.

Put my .02 in on the comment portion thingy over in the land use section. I've never had an issue giving my opinion, especially if its something I love doing. If it's something the rest of my group wants to do I think I'll tang along just to see it one time. Thanks

go in the summer. much more fun.

that is what the hiker thought that got killed by the bear, RIP

I went a number of years ago when you could ride your own sled and enjoyed it.
I would never go in a guided group, while some of the group may be going 45 MPH,
others that have never been on a sled will be going 20 MPH.
