Yellowstone area To go or not?

Hi guys. Thinking of taking the women and children on a new years trip somewhere with lots of snow, that we already haven't frequented alot. West Yellowstone or that area came up as on of the options this year. The Kid that will be coming is 2 and the women are not real crazy for sledding so there will have to be activities to occupy them during the days in which the boys will be "shredding the gnar!" Any opinions would help greatly or if you know other places with huge snow where women can shop, please let us know. We would be leaving from Southern Alberta Canada. Thanks alot

We did that two years ago with four girls under 6 and had an awesome trip.
We spent three days, they shopped one day, we went with them on the snowcoaches for half of the second day which everyone enjoyed, and on the last day they went to the wildlife center to checkout the bears, wolves etc.

We were able to get in 6-8 hours of sledding each day while the girls and moms rested or wandered town. Lots of good places to stay, eat and play. Talking about going back next year.

Enjoy

west yellowstone

i have been there with and with out the wife. we always had a good time. there are plenty of things to do. it is a very good place to take someone who is not a hard core rider. the scenery is awesome for new comers. the town has alot of things to do. the bear and wolf center, the imax are all great places to visit. you can. go and have fun. for the guys we prefer more extreme, with the wives west yellowstone offers a great variety.

you can always throw the family in a snow coach and see the park in comfort, better do it this year, they are trying real hard to close the park to all winter use and I think Obamma will give it to them:(

We've been there twice and highly recommend it. In my opinion, the park tour (on sleds) is a waste of time. You have to rent 4-strokes from one of the licensed tour outfits and go in a group with a guide. If you feel the need to see the park, take a snow coach instead.

Contact Kurt at Goldenwest (also his handle here on snowest). He runs a nice little motel right in town. Real nice guy who will probably show you around as well. Here's their website: http://www.goldenwestmotel.com/

West Yellow Stone, You gotta do it!!

Xsummit,

been rideing in WYS for about 6+ years now from MPLS, MN area. As well as Cooke & REVY.

What you need to do is hook up with Jeff Watt of Ace Powder Guides 406-579-0406 acepowder@yahoo.com , High Country Snowmobile rentals and Pine shadow.
Jeff can take you to great riding places from very challenging, to trails. His wife works at the Grizzly Discovery Center and his brother manages the Imax in town. The wife and kids will have a blast while your out tearing up the POW!!!!! I have brought my entire family and the in-laws out for X-mas and at that time my youngest was about 18 months.
Jeff and eveyrhting he is involved in can get you what ever you need formthe bext of riding, to great family fun. He has a awesome crew and they specialize in catering to YOU and YOUR needs!!

I'll be back out after x-mas, again in January and probably a couple other times.

i can't vouch for the guide service since we've never used it but i can tell you the sled rental and the facilities to stay there are top notch. the last couple years we get one or two condo's there and are never dissapointed. the guys that rent sleds have never had any trouble with them either.

Plus the girls can always drive to Big Sky or Bozeman during the day. Gives you a before sun up to after sun down riding day. The only drawback is that not all of the shops and restaurants are open in the winter (summer tourisim is bigger). If you want till March the Expo is always good, weather is awesome and usually the snow is still very deep.

Make sure to add a comment to the Yellowstone travel plan that is on the top of the General snowmobile forum. Help us with the fight to keep it open to snowmobile use. Thanks

You can never go wrong with West Yellowstone. No matter the snow conditions you will have fun and usually if you talk to a local they can kinda help you out with finding some fresh snow. If its just a guy day of riding may i suggest the Big Sky Trail, you'll get into some good and somewhat challenging riding when the trail ends. You and your family and friends wouldn't regret the trip down. DO IT!

Yellowstone is a must

The combination of riding and services is really unique--------
