I have been riding the first year Yamaha fourstroke since 2003. It's a RX-1M with a 162" camo extreme on a M7 141" rear skid and every lightweight mod with rider forward. Basically everything is done but a turbo.
The sled is bullet proof and keeps going and going but, frankly I'm tiring of riding the same sled for so long. I am getting the bug more severely every year and I now want to ride something new.
My buddys have all turboed their RX-1s, Apexes and Nytros. I have ridden several well running turbos but in my mind a turbo seems to be a gateway drug. Very quickly it becomes, how many pounds of boost are you running, do you have low compression pistons, how much race gas are you using per tank, etc.........
Don't get me wrong, I love my RX-1M and it works flawlessly but snowmobile technology has changed dramatically since 03 and I'd like to move on to new sled technology. That's why I'm resistant to all my buddys saying, "Just turbo your sled". To me it's like adding more memory or a faster processor to a 2003computer. At some point you just have to stop throwing money at it and move on.
The M1000 Snowpro has caught my eye and it seems like with a Y pipe, a fuel controller and a few other mods it should do everything I need but, I see some of the magazines have named the M8 as mountain sled of the year. Not to be closedminded the XP800 and the Dragon800 look like darn nice sleds too but do they have the spunk to compete with the likes of a M1000?
It might be tough for me to go back to a two stroke. I love the ETEC idea and wish there was a Summit with a 800-1000 ETEC engine but with BRPs reliability lately I'd have to wait a year or two for them to get the bugs figured out. I don't want to miss half the season because of something the engineers should have figured out before they fielded the sled.
So, I'll quit yacking and ask you your opinion on where I should land in my new sled quest. Honestly, I want to demo ride all the new stuff and see what fits me and my riding style but by the time there's enough snow to do that the 2010 releases with be a month away and once again I'll be inclined to wait to see what's new and end up waiting another year.
Is a M1000 Snow Pro the right sled for me? What's up with this bog or stall at 4,000 RPM? Is it a fuel mapping issue, and cured for 09?
Thanks, sorry for being so long winded.
