XP worth it?

I am about ready to throw in the towel on my RT 1000 as I have never had a ride with it when I haven't had cooling issues for the last 2 years. I am considering buying a new sled and wouldn't mind some feedback on the XP. I know most people on here seem to love them but I have read other things (like in snowest magazine) that say they are harder to ride than some of the other 800's.

What are some of the frustrations you have had with these sleds? How reliable? Is the '09 significantly more reliable than the '08?

What do you guys think? Any honest feedback would be great.

depends

If your buying a used one I would make sure all the clutching issues have been addressed. Mine was a belt eater until our Dealer put a different gear in it, different spring, all the pins, buttons - the innerds in the primary were shot. After all this has been done its a great machine. I also put in a clutch tower brace, and cooling vents. They are a great sled in powder but it is so light that in hard packed snow it does not cut in as easy as my old 1998 rmk. I would ride he rev all day over the rmk but that is one noticable area to me. In the powder I would not want to be on anything else. There was a lot of other recalls from handlebar heaters to flashes on the electronics. You might ask if they have been done as well. My 2 cents.

Mine is the most fun sled I've ever had. I gave up my tubo apex for mine after riding a couple last season. It's all in the setup

the 08 after the clutching and motor alignment is a great sled --we still have our 08 x and it runs perfect with the 09 clutching---we have 6 xp,s we ride with every weekend--3 stock--2 with heads and pipes and 1 Big bore and they run real good and no issues at all---Except i think my DPM selonoid might have gone saturday, it would only run 7000 rpms part of the time then it was at 8200 the next time---1st issue in 750 miles--pretty minor--

T/A was up in Island Park last week and mine did the same thing. Is there a way to test the solonoid??

The snow west guys. I just have a comment for them. I ride in the same areas they do and have seen them ride along with riding with them. Some of them are good riders, some are not. I do not want to disrespect them cause I like their magazines and website. But I wouldn't put to much weight in to what they say about the XP. THere is a learning curve but once you figure it out you will find the XP to be one of the funnest sleds you will ever ride. You will also want to make sure it is Set up right. Most dealers seem to miss the ball. But getting it set up right is hugh, it makes a big difference. I have an 08 XP I am on the orginal belt, I did have the hand warmer problem, but I love my sled I am 100% better rider on this sled then my 06 Rev X 800.

all i know is what i've seen, a friend of mine that weighs only about 100lb always had a hard time sidehilling, turning then going uphill, or sled pushing in corners. not so with the xp shes going all over the place and making it look easy, thought about getting one then and decided not to probably take away all the challenge of snowmobiling

this sled is great have no problems 500 miles same belt run it hard and put it away wet. once you get the feel for it you will love it:D

according to dealership employees the new Xps have alot if issues that need to be adressed clutching chain case ect. ect. but they are very nice ride and when running right they run hard i personally havent ridden one but buddies who own them like them but watch out they will kill you on the parts counter very expensive to replace.

I Love my 09 xp 800 146"

Ok, truth be told I was not happy with my XP the first couple trips. But I read some threads on this site as well as dootalk which advised I adjust my suspension. After loosening this and tightening that and removing the sway bars.....IT FREAKIN ROCKED:D!!! It will roll over much easier along with adjusting body position I have found my sweet spot and love this machine. I weigh 138 lbs and I can throw this machine around well. I still am going to change skis and do a two wheel kit. If I did not purchase this machine, I would choose the M8. Just my .02

Crash!!!

Long time rev rider, and i've had a few chances to ride the xp that my buddy just bought. Awesome power, great great powder sled. The one thing i did notice is that it didn't go down the trail as nice as my o4 rev did, but that's not really what the sled was made to do. Rode it a little in a meadow for a short bit and thought it came over very nicely in the deep snow. It's an athletic sled, more so than even the rev was. The cat i have now is nice, but they are pretty easy to ride, the xp you have to stay in the middle of. Just my .02, i think you would like it after you got used to it. I probably would have got one too if I didn't have such a good deal proposed to me on this cat. Good luck!

With a little practice this sled will make you a better rider. I would just about count on it. I am always impressed with my XP's. Great machines...

My last sled was an RT1000, and if you get an XP you will never look back. And I'm saying this when my RT always ran like a champ. And there is no getting used to this new chassis if you are used to the RT. After a day on the RT I was really tired and this is not the case with the XP. And the handling is second to none. You will love it!

The XP-X is the most fun to ride machine ski-doo has ever made, I also have a 01 800x, and a 05 800x, and I never ride them unless mine is broken and that is not as often as most people would like you to believe, unless of course I break it by doing something stupid, it happends. I ride with my best friend every weekend and he has a new M 1000 snow pro and I never even want to ride it after the initial check it out stage. Clutch matters do need to be attended to on the 08 XP but it is still not a big deal

You are so full of hsit. Go back to your POO thread. Why don't you buy an up to date sled, & then make a comment.

Wouldn't give up my XP for anything. By far the best sled I have ever owned. Almost find myself putting to much faith in the sled to get me out of a bad spot:Dbut it does most of the time

XP versus Cat

I have an XP and ride with 3 Artic Cats. I like the XP and I ride the AC and they're great sleds. Personal opinion really, they have very little or no problems least of all over heating. I'd say the AC are easier to ride. I rode Yamahas for 5 years Apex & Nitro, then went to the XP and found it easy to handle. I purchased it from a very good dealer so any and all problems I had were taken care of immediatlly.

You can't go wrong either way, likey less problems with AC.

My opinion.
