Xp owners watch your secondary

After all of the posts I have been reading about the issues concerning the premature wearing of belts I must admit I was a little nervous; however, after 50 miles of roads, moderate boon docking and a couple short hard pulls to say I am impressed with this machine is an understatement. I did stop about every 5 miles to check the belt and clutch. One thing I did find was the secondary had some lubricant of some sort coming out of the center and working its way towards the belt which would have been disaster if it had gotten on the belt or in the primary. I wiped it off several times and it seemed to be of a clear consistency almost like Vaseline. I don't know if this is some sort of assembly lube or what but it needs to be watched during belt break-in. The secondary did seem hotter than usual after short rips, I had my buddy on my 05 Rev behind me and it was deftly cooler. This may be because mine was still breaking in. However it did seem to be running a little cooler after belt break in. (30-40 miles). I did have to clean a little residue off the primary(40miles) with a scotch brite pad but the belt looks like new. I will soak it in hot soapy water and clean the clutches again before next ride As far as 20 MPG!!! not even. Both the XP and Rev used the exact amount of fuel, closer to 10 MPG. I know I'm still breaking in but 20 mpg is a little ambiticious. My conclusion so far is this is a sled that 2-3 years ago would have cost 20,000+ grand to build. Any company pushing the envelope like Doo is would have there own issues.
So if I have to put up with a few issues while BRP figures out the solution then so be it' It,s still a small price to pay for a KICK A$$ sled!!!!!

I noticed some type of grease like you mention as well. Not much, but definately could see something look like it was being slung out.

No belt problem, but only 45 miles.

Thats unreal 45 miles and no belt problems I guess the 7500 kilometers on the viper belt wan't too bad then eh?????

While I was taking off the tool kit, plastic belt guard cover, etc. and cleaning the belt and clutches, I looked at the inside of the clutch guard(The side that faces the belt) and noticed it had oil "fling" marks all over the place. Obviously there was a bunch of oil on the clutches that came flying off at the initial start-up. Clean everything GOOD.

Like I and many others have said "Keep telling yourself it is the oil" If you keep an eye on your clutches and belt you will not believe how hot they get. My belt got so hot on my 07 that it burnt my fingers when I touched it. And the primary would sizzle when snow fell on it. It is the TRA 7! Because if you have and older REV to compare too you will notice that the clutches are not nearly as hot on the older clutches. Have fun this year boys, which you will if Doo ever gets the clutch thing figured out.

Rioplay, what have you tried to lessen thew heat? Sometimes it's the small things....1-2 clicker positons and/or a slight change in weight will OFTEN make the difference between a egg cooker and luke warm clutches. My settup on clicker 2 will blow a belt on the road, but on clicker 5 will run with no problems in the heaviest loads.....it's not the clutch, it's the clutch settup!!!

I had a Dynano Joe clutch kit which did help. I tried many different weights in the primary, I cleaned and polished everything and made sure it was moving freely. I floated the secondary and cut vent holes in the side of the machine, but it still did not matter. After making a couple of pulls up the hill everything was smoking hot. An older machine could do the same thing and the clutches would only be warm, where my clutches would sizzle like the pipe usually does after riding for a while and getting snow on it.
I had to change my riding so that I rode for a bit then sat at the bottom of the hill with all my side panels open so things could cool off and I would not blow up my belts. For the record I never blew a belt with my 07 but I would have if I had kept riding it with the belt that hot!

Has anyone bothered to check sheave angle of the series 7 against the TRA 3 or match it with the belt cut-angle?
I know that the TRA 2 had a different angle than the series 3 and it was a belt-eating animal. Could be the same problem this time. If the pressure is being placed more on the cording than the ribbed section, the belt will undoubtedly blow because there is not enough surface area to grip the sheaves without slipping. Hmm, I think I'll check on this and get back to ya:confused: ...

Rode my new 07 with updates allday on Saturday up at Togwotee and did some pretty hard pulls clutch held at 8000 rpm and when I stopped I opened up and could touch primary without burning myself belt also looked fine. only have 50miles on it so I am crossing my fingers that latest fix worked just my 2 cents.:)

Ran into numerous XP's in Revy this last weekend.....should have started a belt dealership.....Can you say EAT BELTS!!!!

Just my 2cents...

I some what solved my problem with blowin belts i know have 340km on my 146x and i opened up the secondary enough to spin the belt by hand with out any of the clutches turning....it still pulls rpms and takes of like it normally did....it alowwed me to ride alot harder and i had maybe an 1.5 inch chunk of thread come out all day..we will see if i can get out and again and see if it gets better gunna try clean my clutches havent done that yet..

Could it be that the structure of the XP isn't strong enough to hold the clutches in proper alignment?

I like the comment on the 7500 km Viper belt. That, my friends, is a sturdy, well-built machine.

free popcorn anyone? LOL

My buddy's wife got 90 miles on her first belt, then about 30 on the next one. She was running a 146. He got his 154 2 weeks later and we took off the tool holder and drilled 3/4" holes all over it. It looks like swiss cheese. More venting to come, but it has worked good for a few rides now, maybe 70 miles, I'm guessing.

gramaha belt

That says it all.WE ALL know there was and NEVER will be a good yamaha 2 stroke mountain...They don't make enough power to hurt anything.OH ya you should brag about your great gas milage.

Spout off all you want, but the SAME 8DN belt on the Viper is used on the RX-1 and Apex and we all know what kind of power the boosted setups are putting out.
