Service Bulletin

Yes, they changed it for free because it is a warranty issue. BRP is recommending the change for those of us that ride the steep & deep.

Bulletin:
changes are helpful on some models.

It is important to know that the 146 inch models are
geared rather high as we intended them to be a long
track Renegade of sorts. If top speed is more desirable
than deep snow or extreme climbing performance your
customers may prefer to leave the gearing alone, but if
they are being used more extremely you may gear
them down by using a 21 tooth top sprocket and a 102
link chain.
The 154 inch model being used in extreme conditions
may benefit from a 19 tooth top sprocket, but you will
loose top speed on flat meadows. A different chain is
not needed.
The 163 inch model already uses a 49 tooth bottom
sprocket so it is geared lower and most likely will not
need change.
If gearing changes are required to meet the customers
expectations you may file a normal warranty claim for a
top sprocket and chain. You will be required to return
the removed parts claimed.
As always, be sure to maintain belt deflection as
instructed in previous What's News editions or the
Operator's Guide.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,
and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
We sincerely hope that this new information will help
your business and ask you to watch for further
developments.

On a side note, I have the 154 & when i got the sled, it had the larger gear & had great pull off the line, but top speed was about 60 mph. I don't care about top speed, but it seemed a little low to me. After reading this bulletin on dootalk; I talked to my service manager. He recommended trying the change to a lower gear. I thought a lower gear would slow down the sled even more, but I figured I would try it. Now, the sled continues to pull through the dee powder longer. The sled actually stays in it's power band longer. It pulls so hard, I love it! The weird part is that it even improved the top end. Top speed now is around 80 mph.

If you run the steep & deep, I highly recommend having you dealer change the gear on your 154. You will love it!

gear changes were free.

Ya thats what I heard too.

Had to pay for mine and have been waiting 10 months for dealership to get money back from Doo to reimburse me for something that was supposed to be free.

If I had known I was going to get charged I would have done it myself. Guess it's my fault for not double checking with dealer ahead of time, but they had sled in for free 10 hr service so thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone.

Oh well. It's only money. Problem is the old money tree is looking a little sparse these days.

Ain't that the truth!!

Sorry your dealer stiffed ya. Hopefully they will cough it up. I think in the beginning a lot of people paid to get it done or did it themselves and then towards the end of the season, BRP decided to make it a service bulletin, but not a recall. I think they only do a recall when it's something that could cause death or injury & a service bulletin when it just helps with performance.

I run a 19 on my 146, dealer hooked me up for free and even installed it. You got to love Wellers'. I would recomend it, seams like the power hits alot faster, and i can still smoke a 154 X on the road.

I believe that the 06 had a different number of drivers on the driveshaft than the 08. That is why your sled has 21/45 and the 08 has 21/49. I believe the 06 had 9 teeth and the 08 has 10.

I had an 06 and changed the gearing to a 19 and that sled rocked my 08 still will not keep up to my 06.

I also had the shop install a 19 on my 08 and it was better.

I have even installed the DJ clutch kit and it is a lot closer but still not as good.

The track speed is down and I might try a 20 tooth this year.

Later....
