Xenon Lights - anyone running them?

i have a few questions

who else is running them and how have they been?
it would be for a 2003.5 Summit REV 800HO

i dont want to do the whole HID conversion kit, just the bulbs
i like the look of the 12k color (purple-ish/white output) or the 8k iceburg blue

can you put the HID replacement bulbs in, w/out the actual conversion?
if not, what bulbs have you used? (H4 is the size - is this right?) how long did they/have they lasted?
i have heard that sometimes they got hot and melt the housing? or is this just a rumor?

and, do you have any pics of what they look like & where you bought them & the cost

attached is a pic of what i want to achieve

thanks for your help

ok found some PIAA Super Plasma GTX ones on ebay for $60USD shipped
violet color on low beans and super bright white on high

any experience w these by chance?

real HID's require a full conversion with the ballast, ignitor, bulb etc. Couple of things. These tend not to work well w/o a battery to take the initial load, the stock housings for the lights will not properly focus the HID lilght and scatter it everywhere. The PIAA bulbs you are looking at are simply colored halogen bulbs, the color will actually reduce the effective light output and make them dimmer.

I run Silverstars in my sled, a bit brighter and I like the whiter color. HID all the way in my car, would love it in my sled but not w/o the projectors.

I bought a set of lights from a guy at haydays that were $15. I can get the brand when I get home, but they are WAY brighter then the stock bulbs on my 07 rev.

They have a yellow/blue prism to them, the seem great for all around riding.

I wouldn't waist money on an HID kit for a sled, and PIAA bulbs suck!

Agreed anything short of a HID ballast kit will be less light.

Must inject that there might be an aftermarket brand brighter than stock.

I have the silverstars in my edge and it's noticeably more white and brighter than the bulbs in my Dragon. I almost thought my new dragon had a real projector in it....till I looked at it up close lol. The most optimal light color is 4300K when running true HID's...

yeah the HID would be a bit much and i dont want to run a battery as i dont have e-start right now

whay do you day that PIAA lights suck?
or just in snowmobiles?

i ran them in my gixxer 750 and they were awesome!
the cheaper no name ones alwasy burned out..i finally spent a few $$ on the PIAA's and they lasted forever

Are H4 bulbs the same ones that a Gen II would use? because my lights suck lol. I can see further because of the light coming from my buddy's TNT when he's 75' behind me than i can from my own lights.

You should check out britelites.net
and we'll be in Westyellow Feb 7-13

I think these are what I bought at haydays. Where you guys selling at haydays?

If it was you guys they are a great bulb IMHO.

BTW I think PIAA is just overpriced for what you get. Tell me why there expensive bulbs are better then any other bulb out there?

nailed it

Exactly! HID lights do require a battery or capacitor to run.
A good conversion will not have a separate ignitor. it will be built into the ballast.
Stay below 6k anything above that is a complete waste.
For the biggest improvement in sled lighting the HID helmet mounted lights are the way to go. Ride faster and safer with a helmetmounted light

MACH.....I wasn't at Hay Days (wedding) but our friend owns the business and I'm guessing you got them from him. Check out the website hes got good stuff, good prices and good service. He must send out 300 bulbs while were in West for a week
