X3 track heavy

I am questioning my decision to go with a camo x3 3x15x162 the bloody thing weighs 10 pound more than the stock 163. I am turbo'd but still what is the hp to rotating mass calculation again?

Something like 1# is 7hp but there is a ton more to it then a simple #. Depends how big of a circle the mass is rotating and what not. the traction alone will make up for its weight. The hair dryer will just make it that much better.

You sure it 10# heavier ? I thought it was closer to 5#.

Either way everyone who has done it has only positive comments, stock or turboed it's suppose to be one of the best mods for the dollar.

I thought it was closer to 5lbs also. The new 3" is probably 10+ lbs lighter than the old style....I recall the 174 3" was a 75lb track and JFYI,we only lost about 4-5mph climbing track speed compared to stock track, running stock 800 with appropriate gearing and clutching.

Stock 163 weighed 48 pounds when i shipped mine the other day and says 58 lbs off parts unlimited for x3 162.

I just went out to the garage to weigh my stock take off 163, it weighed 53#.
According to camoplast site x3 15x162 is 58#.
So 5# difference.

Does anyone know what the single ply 2.5 CE weighs??? Curious how it compares in weight to the X3.

sorry kinda off topic but figured this would be a good place to ask, does anyone know the weight of the power claw 2.6?? Heard lots of good things about this track as well, thanks

Boys I think you are missing something. There is a big difference between track weight and track rolling resistance. To me track weight isn't very important. I run the heaviest track made. If I put my sled on a stand, remove the belt, and measure how hard it is to move the track, I get around 17-20 pounds. I believe that many of you with a stock 163 tightened to Polaris specs have much more rolling resistance than I do.

There is a lot more to rolling resistance and performance on the snow than measuring it in the garage. Rolling resistance and track tension is a different conversation than track weight. The weight of the track is important and must be balanced with the other factors of the track. Pitch, number of lugs, lug height, width, etc. Equally important but "mostly" unrelated, rolling resistance/track tension has been discussed in numerous other threads that are well worth the read.

I couldn't agree more. I just wanted to bring up that track weight alone wasn't enough information.

I completely agree, the X3 is also a fully clipped track. It should have a lower rolling resistance, and maybe the Hyfax will last a little longer...

Clipped vs. Fully clipped...

Most OEM's clip a track every 2nd or even 3rd window to save weight and cost, however rubber doesn't slide on hyfax very well. Camoplast usually uses a track clip on EVERY window, which reduces drag, and is more durable (especially when running extrovert drivers). There is a lot of controversy surrounding a fully clipped vs. partially clipped track, but I can tell you this: When using a partially clipped track, hyperfax (from SLP) will basically disintegrate from the rubber contact, wheras the fully clipped tracks do not wear it out (personal experience).
