X3 stock suspension set up

Not sure if this has been covered a million times but I am putting on the X3 running stock suspension. What's the best adjustments to make do I need to adjust limiter strap etc. Thanks

Stock limiter strap doesn't adjust.

You will likely need a looser front track shock setting than you used with the stock track, to keep the wheelies/trenching in check. Set the rear track shock for you weight via the owner manual specs and then it's easy enough to tinker with the FTS on a ride.

Jay is right. The front track shock is going to need to be loosened up to the point of almost no threads to only a couple showing below the adjuster nut.

It depends on which X3 track you are putting on. If it is the 162", you don't really have to change anything. I a running a 162" X3 with stock suspension settings. I did have both shocks revalved and a heavier spring put on the rear shock by Carl's when I bought the sled. I ran it for the first year with the stock track. I did not change anything when I put the X3 track on. It works great.

I do believe that you will need to make some changes if you are putting the 156" X3 on an RMK that had the 155" stock track on it. I know that Carl's has some recommendations for that modification. Several of my friends ran that combination last year and they did have wheelying problems.

If you are interested in the "poor man's k-mod" and want to couple the suspension to keep the skis down, then you can put a limiter strap on the rear scissor.

I have that on mine and I really do see the value in it.

I think the Skins ARC system that can electronically couple and uncouple the rear skid on the fly could be totally dynamite for those guys who don't want to be stuck with one configuration or the other.

Are you a heavier rider? I'm running the X3 162 but the fts has stock valving. My shock is as loose as it can go which is why I didn't do a revalve on that shock. It does really well until the climbs get deep and start going 30 degree plus.

I'm going with a fox setup this year. If my back heals up. I want to be able to ride not drool over 1.2k worth of shocks.

BuJust curious what others are running for rear suspension set ups on stock skids?

I got my first ride with the new X3 on a 163 and so far so good. I'm running Raptors all around with the rear track shock spring is set to my weight.

I started with the front track shock spring almost all the way loose, based on previous suggestions. For me, the sled seemed sorta flat??? Very little front end lift when getting on it.

I started tightening the front track shock about a 1/2 to a full turn at a time. The sled started getting a little better by the time I had about a quarter inch gap between the spring color and shock. Basically about a thread and half showing.

Rode the next day and after while , it seemed like it was going backwards again. I wrote it off to crappy snow / marginal snow and the day was cut short. Got home and checked and I found that the front track shock spring had backed off completely??????

Got a hold of Jake at Raptor and informed him of what happend and he was a great help as usual!!!

Jake set me up with a 3/8" spacer that goes between the adjustment collar and shock.

So now, I'll throw in the spacer in and back to adjusting!! I just hope the spacer isn't too much.

Anybody else???????

Update on the previous post.

Went out again and wanted to see what would happen. Got the front track shock spring adjusted to where the sled felt like the balance was about right. No spacer installed as it would not fit where it was adjusted. The adjustment was about a 1/4" gap and the spacer is 3/8" The sled was feeling good but by the end of the day, it felt different.

Got the sled in the garage and unthawed and the front track shock spring backed off completly again!!!

Now, I guess I'll have to install the spacer but I'm a little afraid that it will make the shock a little to stiff and the excessive trenching will start.

Anyone else run into this??????

Spoke with Jake at Raptor this morning and I think I have things worked out.

From where I was without the spacer to where the spacer will fit is about a turn and half to a turn and three quarters tighter.

After speaking with Jake, gonna throw in the spacer, dial a click or two off the clicker and give it try. He was pretty confident that it should work out. If not, had had another suggestion, but again was confident this would work out.

For those of you out ther looking into aftermarket shocks, I cannot say enough good about Jake and his Raptors!!! Great product and the little issue I have had, he as been right there for assistance.

I am a heavier rider but not as heavy this year. About 220 now, 240 last year and both were buck naked so add in clothing, boots, helmet, pack, etc. The Carl's valving works well for me along with the heavier capacity spring on the rear shock. I don't have wheelying problems with it. I don't believe that my front shock is run with as little preload as suggested here although I will check it. I may try to loosen it up a little bit if I have enough threads left to do that to see if it changes things very much. I like my ski pressure and transition pretty well right now.
