Just did my taxes. I could buy a used 2011 etec if I wanted from the Feds, but I can't even fill up my fuel tank on the truck from the State of Colorado. WTF??!!

So you want the state to withhold the same percentage that the feds took out all year????????? I do not understand that at all. If so, you can request that your employer takes out more, gives to the state to use all year, and then get the extra back.....

I always have the same amount taken, but the refunds have gone from 500 bucks to now 85. Colorado withheld approx 30% of what the Feds took. But did not refund 30% of what the Feds did. But somehow the State is broke. hmmmm?

Wait 'til you get the letters that you're underpaying and COULD be subject to penalty if you dont have more witheld or make quarterly payments!:face-icon-small-sho
Bull ch!t state. What's wrong with waiting to pay them until the end of the year? They don't pay you early if you get a refund.
WA ain't any better though. No state income tax, but they hammer the p!ss outaa you on EVERYTHING else.
"Use Tax" on all RV's coming into the state of 9.3% fair market value.
Woulda had to pay almost $4k to put tags on the boat if it hadn't "only been worth $1000".
GOt hit for the full amount on the sleds. $1100 to register a 6yr old and 4yr old sled! They said my M1k was worth almost $7k! Told the broad I'd sell it to her for $6500 right now and she could make a buck on it then!
Sales tax 9.3% and property taxes are like friggin Illinois.
And they won't even register the kids' sled and the quad because I don't have a current title or reg from CO for them. I have to get them tagged in CO I guess then pay up again to get WA stickers.:face-icon-small-fro

Wow thats a big federal refund, I would adjust my W-4 and keep that money in my paycheck.

breaking even

you should be about break even. if you're getting that much back from federal you're having too much withheld. you're essentially giving the irs and interest free loan for an entire year. if the roles were reversed they are sure as heck going to charge you interest......

I did adjust but my willpower is weak, That extra would go into something else. At least this way I can take my boys to Florida to disney and Legoland

hmm. the more and more I think about it the less and less I want to move to Colorado. Heh :D

Try moving here from a non-sales tax state. I get the pleasure of paying sales tax on MSRP on ALL of my vehicles. NEAT.

How the hell does that fly? Why would you not pay sales tax on the actual sale price of the vehicle? That is a ****ing crock of bull**** if I ever heard of one.

Yeah then they tell you what it depreciates every year after that and charge the taxes accordingly. Buy a used car they tell you what it is worth and tax accordingly no matter what you pay for it.

I bought a used 2009 motorhome last year and had to pay 2500 for plates not taxes I paid those to the dealership!!!!!!!!

Why would someone have to pay sales tax on a vehicle they already own, that they bought in another state?

Ownership tax I get, but it ain't the first time I have heard of people moving here and paying through the nose for plates, because of the sales tax. Ask XC, I think he almost died when he got CO plates.

The only state I can think of that's worse for plates and registration is Utah.

It cost me $61 to register my sled this year, $120 to register my bike, and $250 for plates for my truck here.

What I'm getting at is, if I buy a ****ing vehicle in CO, then the sale price is what I should be taxed on because that was the actual price of the transaction, not a grossley inflated arbitrary number known as MSRP. That is ****ing horse **** if I've ever seen horse ****.
