WOT Hesitation - Do we have a REAL answer yet?

FYI on the injector trouble for me it presented as a stumble at throttle tip around 4500 RPM almost like a bad plug.

Did that sound like a cylinder dropping, running on one? Mine once in a great while would do that at mid throttle, full throttle no problem. The throttle cable has been adjusted, plug wires trimmed back. tps plug greased with dielectric grease. Only thing left is the tps setting. Starting to lean toward an injector. Also plugs have been replaced with no change.

Do what Rick! tells you to do, regardless of what all the other threads say. We saw this last year in Cooke and he pushed a couple of buttons on the multi display and said, "You're hitting the rev limiter". I would have bet money we weren't hitting the rev limiter because you could not see it on the tach, but the record/playback showed it. More weight and golden.

I remember that one. Another one that week was high rpms due to a missing oil cap seal. New belt, new oil cap, wipey, wipey and no more running problems. The work to fun ratio was like 50/50 that week. I like it better when it is closer to 0/100.

Almost ran like it was on 1 cylinder some times it seemed that a new plug would help. I would also have dealer check the tps. Also make sure the plug caps are pulled down they are a little tight.

Rune,we can go on a test and tune weekend to the cabins up here later.i'm sure jhlarsen is coming along.maybe a couple of beers too?

YESSIR!! That we can do! But only a couple of beers, right? LOL

Will Mr. Larsen bring the RX-1ton Mountain? Challenge him to a little Rsmussen Style...

RS

max i didn't even realize you were the one that started this thread. i had not even looked at it. i guess its to late to give you **** now. i guess i will have to beg you to help me out once my sled comes in. i know my doo clutches but don't have tools or the knowledge to do the polaris stuff, yet.

larsen is not very keen on boondocking the old rx or apex.we will have to get him stuck, great entertainment:face-icon-small-win.yes not more than a couple.

Mine did it when I had too aggressive of a clutch set up. The tach is a little slow, and it never seemed to show the peak rpm before it would bog when it his the rev limiter. It seemed to only show 8550 rpm. After some clutching it is 8300 or so now if I remember right. (I need to get it on the snow again!!)

Have check the plug caps even after trimming the wires back. Seem to be all good. One question I have is does the tps set the same way as a dragon 700 using the same voltage calibration?

I had dealer check as it was on warranty, but do not think it is the same procedure. Took a couple of minutes on digital wrench.

we ran into issues with checking tps with digital wrench back on the dragons(not as accurate as a quality multimeter)..I set mine with a meter and a box...

Neither do I. I can take a doo clutch apart and put it back together in my sleep. I just studied my RMK clutch, doesn't seem to be any harder.

Can you pull the outter of the primary safely without using puller to take the entire assy off? I've done it many times on the Doo, not sure on Poo clutches.

You need the correct puller to get the primary as a unit off. Depending on what you want to do, you can compress the spring and take the outer cover off to replace the spring, without removing it from the crank. If you want to inspect the weight bushings, you can just use a screw driver (be careful not to gouge the casting) compress the spring, and you can see if the fly weight bushings need replacing. To get to the tower buttons or to change belt side clearance spacers you will need other tools to remove the spider.

Just found the answer to my question. It apprears you can just pull the bolt, then the outter and spring, then do the weights.

To deal with the weights, you don't even need to remove the center bolt or the outer cover. Just compress the spring and the weights are free.

yeah, don't release that spring unless you have the tools...remember how tough that spring is. They make lever-like tools to just open it right up without touching the bolts that hold it together, take the small bolt out that holds the weight, replace the weight/bolt, release, rotate the clutch, repeat! Pretty easy job actually. Your dealer or a friend may have one laying around that you can use...I made my own by bending some steel....

A large screw driver or crow bar will do the job just fine. I put deep well socket in after it is compressed to hold it in place while you work on the weights.

Although I agree you don't have to remove the clutch cover to change weights, I must add that there are no special tools required to change a primary spring in a P-85. I've done many on the mountain in minutes. Only special tool needed is a 7/16" socket or wrench.

Here's my custom screwdriver - opens clutches and compresses valve springs/buckets on Fiats and Ferraris.
