Worth it to turn 500 VES to 660 big bore?

The sled in question is a 2003 500 xcsp. This year it got a boss seat, clutch kit, and 1.5" paddle track. I have been looking around at the 660 big bore kits for the Polaris small blocks. I can't seem to find out if it is worth it to start with the 500. Can my 500 jugs be used as a starting point or do I have to come up with 600 jugs/power valves? Also, do I just have my carbs bored or do I have to locate carbs from a 600? CDI box? I would like to keep it around $2500 with pipes. Possible or do I just keep the 500? Thanks for the help. K

660

Talk to Carl's Cycle. They usually do a cylinder swap on their 660 kits when doing the mod to the 600. Not sure on yours because the 500 has a 60mm stroke and the 600 a 64. They may need to bore your cylinders instead of swap. They have these kits for 440s too. On my 600, I sent them cylinders, valves, CDI and head. CDI is reprogramable. Their kit is $1500.00. No pipe or reeds. They have a pipe available as well that works really well but it wouldn't fit my ProX chassis so I went with SLP twins. You should be able to hit your budget without reeds or carb boreing both of which you can do later. I did not do the bore.
You will be amazed at their kit. In the 1/8 mile it will out run a 800. Make sure you also buy their clutching and follow it to a T.

500 Stroke

According my to my 2003 Service manual the stroke on a 500 Liberty is 64 mm with a 70.5 mm bore.

600 has same stroke by 77.25 mm bore. Cranks and cases are the same on both, it's the cylinders and top end that varies.

Worth the extra 30hp you'll gain. Keep the 38's, might need to find a 600 cdi, talk with Carl's or SLP on this. Find 600 cores for cheap, sell your good 500 cylinders for $150-200 each. Good luck with it.

Thanks for all the replies. Ill give Carl's Cycle a call and see what they say. Its a pretty penny for such an old sled but I guess I could always pull the motor for use in a Dragon later on.
