Worried about clutching - secondary spring

Ok, I haven't been able to find an answer searching so here goes. I apologize in advance for the long post:beer;

This fall I had the clutches gone through (among other things) by the dealer as I didn't have the time to do it myself. The primary was serviced and updated with all new parts as follows between the 2 times I had it in there.

Brand New:

3- 10-70 weights
6- Button Guides
3- Pin wt. Hardened
1- Black/Green steel spring

Was also cleaned and spider assembly re-set as it had come loose.

Secondary was serviced as follows.

Brand New:

Team Titanium Spring 140-240 Part No. 30-930702
1 Delrin washer Part No. 30-930650

and a thorough cleaning job.

Here is my concern.

The reason they put in a titanium spring is because they were out of the steel red/black spring that was in it and they gave it to me for what I was told was a reduced rate. I am having trouble verifying that supplied part number to be sure it was infact the correct spring.

The kicker......

The whole reason this concerns me is because last year I got 1100 miles out of my 3211115 belt with a fair balance of boondocking, carving, climbing, trail riding, etc and many times at WOT.

I checked my clutches yesterday after doing 4 WOT sidehill climbs pulling a max of 48 MPH track speed (pretty decent for the conditions we had) and a max reading of 7850 RPM (holding around 7550-7650 average) and the clutches were WAY hot when I was done and a half inch of thread was pulled out of the belt with a total of 160 miles on it at that point:mad2::face-icon-small-fro:rant:

From what I can tell the motor is not moving around much at all... the torque stop is set to spec and in good working condition and it is pulling the track speed that I have come to expect with RPMs being close to what I recall from last year (maybe 50-100 RPM higher now). Pulling the side-panel off and watching the primary bolt, the motor does not seem to move at all when given a healthy dose of throttle and the motor does seem VERY planted.

My concern is not how hard the sled is pulling, it seems just fine near as I can tell as this was the first weekend this year that we could do ANY climbing due to the snow conditions, but I am simply SHOCKED how hot the clutches are getting.... they never got this hot last year and it was only about 25* out yesterday.

I think my belt deflection seems to be close to what it should be (I'm gonna tighten it up just a bit for the next ride) But other than the possibility of the secondary spring being incorrect to match the primary setup, I am at a loss.

The sled runs like a top but I can't believe it pulled a cord at 160 miles:face-icon-small-sho:clock::face-icon-small-fro

Assuming the motor mounts are ok - Bad clutching or I bought a lemon belt?

It is also worth mentioning that when I move it around the house b4 or after trips that I am getting some rubber on the very bottom of the primary clutch sheave... it is obviously slipping at low speed for some reason - another symptom I did NOT have before. It is not present when riding, only when pulling it into the back yard on the grass.

Thanks guys :beer;

That looks like a Western Power sports number and not a Team number and all it says when I look it up online is Spring.

Team is not even showing a 140-240 on their website in Titanium.

They do show a 140-220 black/green if they put this in your clutches are going to heat up

They also show a 140-260 red/pink, that should have been better than the stock one.

Can you verify what color is in there?

Looks like there is a white/red 140-240 but team doesn't show it on their website anymore. 930700-003

A couple questions on the Belt. Did you wash it before installing it? Did you break it in with some easy miles on the trail before doing hard pulls?

No, I do not know the color of the spring, they put it in.... That was the part number listed on the invoice.

I do not recall if I washed that one or not, ordinarily I do, so I think I would have.

Yes, I am easy on the new belts when new.... this one got plenty of trail miles to start off with and I always go easy for the first few miles irregardless to let everything warm up slowly/evenly. There wasn't enough snow to even go off-trail the first 2 rides this year:rolleyes::(

Like I say, I got 1100 miles out of my last one, that's why I am shocked at this one's durability (or lack there of).

Is there a way I can verify the color of the secondary spring without taking it apart, I do not have the holding tool to disassemble it, thus my reason for having them do it?

Just trying to cover all the bases there with the belt, 160 miles is terrible for a 1115. I have a couple extras and I will throw a new one on if I know I am trail riding that day and break it in then take it off afterwards so I have a belt that is already broken in when I need it.

You can pull the helix without a holding tool and I think you can see the spring.

Got the helix out (was really stuck in there, uses a T-27 tip BTW) and the spring is silver:confused:

I don't even see a silver on the team website:face-icon-small-con

Ok, that is left wound and is the right way. I am trying to find info on that spring and not having much luck so far. I will keep looking.

I'm just guessing here, but I found a couple listings for a left wound team titanium spring. Doesn't show any other color but that silver could be titanium color. 160-260. If that is what it is that should be perfect. I'm going to keep searching though.

94Ford can you verifify the motor mount bolts are or are not broke? I would look first to front motor mount bolt, pto side.

I'm looking at this thing with a flashlight and a dental mirror to get up under the roller assembly and i can not see any markings at all on it..... :tsk:

The 4 bolts for the motor plate appear good... no-way to see the mount bolts themselves at the moment.

Pull the boost off and check! And no need to apologize for a long post, you have described almost to a tee, what lead to my busted bolt discovery last year!
