Wolf Kill

i snowmobile every year on the continental divide trail system (going up next week for four days)......one of the nights i stay near a large elk feeding station.....the guys that do the feeding frequently come over to the lodge to warm up and get a beer.....they say that there's a pack of about 8 that live off the 2500 or so elk at their station.....they say they make at least one kill a day, and make a game of it, stampeding the elk and running them for about 30-40 minutes just for the fun of it....they always take a full grown and healthy animal, never a sick or crippled one (and they have several in the herd).....and once a week or so, they come in and kill a half dozen or so of the yearlings for sport, never eat those, however.....the river valleys around the elk station have always been a place to see moose, lots of them....no more, we haven't seen a moose in the last two years, not one....the number of calves to breeding females is about 15%, should be at least 80%.....the breeding female population is in their last 25% of their producing years according to theri age, when they die or are killed in the next 3-4 years, the pool of breeding females will drop dramatically, and so will elk production....no moose, no elk.....what will all those big basturds eat then?.....then the wolf lovers will start to get a real education, instead of the crap that they learn in liberal colleges run by people that have never been outside of an academic situation in their lives, but are so positive they're smarter than you and me....and so self righteous about it too....i just wish we could then capture about 500 or so of the wolves and turn them loose in san francisco, and see how long it would take for them to shoot the basturds....

Obama waste no time-

In his first day-Obama stopped a Interior Dept proposal that would have taken wolves off of the indangered species list in the Northern Rockies. The pay backs are coming already. Sorry boys-

Like I stated before about trophy hunting. Who goes out and shoots the weakest animal? During hunting season you will see the biggest racks. Man takes the strong and the wolves take the weak.

I understand .

Sorry, this is a fallacy...the population that is getting hit the hardest by the wolves is NOT teh sick and the weak, it is the bigger mature bulls...(they are often by themselves and easier targets)

and despite popular opinion (which is based upon ignorance and fairy tales) the wolves do hunt for sport, and not just for food...this has been WELL documented...

oh yeah, and took 3 buddies out hunting this year, all of us had Bull tags, and cow tags...took 4 elk...no monster racks and two cows...humans are not evil...

Additionally, your view of trophy hunting is slighly misguided...trophy hunters do generally kill the big bulls, but not all big bulls (or bucks) are the ones that are doing the breeding, and if you want to support population growth or stability taking a male out of the herd will have a nominal impact if any (unless males are dramatically out of balance)

I'm still waiting for the ultimate hunt! Man! The ultimate adversary! I'm pretty much with Zachcreek on this one. Just keep breeding and killing and one day we will be the only ones left to hunt!!!:mad::confused::D:beer;

Just speaking the truth. Crunch the #'s. The human pop. is compounding at a crazy rate. More people= less land= less wildlife= less hunting= a big f!@#ing mess. What do I care. I have no kids. I mean no disrespect, but it will be you're kids who feel the ill effects. Just the facts bud. Once again I mean no disrespect. I love cars, sleds, hamburgers, and have lot's of friends who hunt. I am just as bad as the rest to some degree. I just think everything has a right to life. At least the preservation of the species.:beer;

Speaking of P.E.T.A. Any of you seen the video on their website of the guys skinning the Raccoon Dogs? Most disturbing piece of video I have ever seen...okay second most disturbing. First was the be-heading of Nicholas Berg.
I'd give the link but I don't have clue how to do that. Go to the PETA site and it should still be on there. Don't let your kids see it.....honestly sickening! :mad:
OMG!!!!!!! I am the farthest thing from a greeny!!! but you are right that video made me sick to my stomach!!! skinning something alive is discusting enough but then leaving it alive with no skin and in undescribable pain is just f****ing sickening!!!!

I agree with you Wade that they need management. I guess that my point is from some of the posts is we should wipe them out again.

There are herds that are not healthy and they need to be thinned.

Like I stated before about trophy hunting. Who goes out and shoots the weakest animal? During hunting season you will see the biggest racks. Man takes the strong and the wolves take the weak.

I understand the ranchers concerns. The wolves go after the easiest prey, cows or calves. They are also talking about reintroducing them into the SW part of Colorado.

White Man wiped out the Buffalo (Indians Food and Clothing) and brought the disease to the Indians on the reservations. No big debate there.

I volunteer with the DOW in Colorado. I hate to see the unhealthy herds out there starving. I also feed and medicate Bighorn Sheep for lung worm. (Man brought this from europe with their sheep.) Like everything, things are diffrent than a hundred years ago. But the "Lets wipe it out again" mentality is not right.

By the way, I love Elk steak,do not drive a Subaru, and I think hippies stink.

Hunting is part of managment of all animals. As is the predator in the woods.

so you seem to be well versed on the winter cycle of the animals that are targeted by wolves. you too prolly know that any extra energy exhausted by animals can take them from healthy to weak in the following weeks. wolves running herds of elk and deer in the winter range is only good for the wolves, it wears them down and allows for easier meals in the future.

wolf reintroduction did not need to happen. there was no "hole" in the foo chain that required action. there is more control for a group of hunters, they can be stopped when the population is in check....not so much with wolves. people who do not see wolves think of them as slightly larger coyotes, instead of the 150lb monsters that they are. I am not at all interested in wiping the wolves off the planet, but to protect them from a rancher who's life is dependant on his herd is rediculous.

Not to sound like a complete greenie, but who was here first smart guy? I'm pretty sure it wasn't the ranchers. I think things seemed to work OK until the white man came into the picture. Like I said b4 though. We'll all be dead b4 it get's really bad so who really gives a F&@#!!! Right?;)

don't know I was not here. I do know that buying and importing animals is toying with the food chain.....not good.
