I know there are many posts, but I am just too lazy to sift through them... I am planning to explore WC this year and have a few questions.

1. Where is better to stay, Pagosa or South Fork? How far from both to parking?
2. Where do you ride from up there? Coordinates?

Thanks in advance guys.....

I've only been there about 5 times, and coming from the east. South Fork is closest and worked well for us.

We've unloaded east of town a few miles and up the mtn road, and, we've unloaded about 10 miles west toward Wolf Creek Pass. Been a lot of years though so I don't recall details.

I stayed in Pagosa on a MC trip once and it was definitely nicer. You can hit the hot springs too.

Been riding there a couple of times, stayed on the South Fork side , less towing to the trail heads, there are 5 trailheads from south fork on your way to Wolf Creek.

The first one outside of town I believe is called Beaver Creek reservoir,Take Hwy 160 west 1 mile from South Fork and turn South onto Beaver Creek Road then 5 miles to Beaver Creek Reservoir you are at the Trail Head. unload at the reservoir.

The next trailhead is Park Creek, West from South Fork on Hwy 160 go 8 miles up Wolf Creek Pass and turn off to the left for Park Creek Road. Parking lot is just across the bridge.

The next is big meadows trailhead havent been there.

Next Tucker Ponds, West on Hwy 160 14.2 miles toward Wolf Creek Pass, after the tunnel about 1 mile, parking lot is on left side of road, Tucker Ponds turn off. The trailhead is right off of the highway.

The 5th trail head is at the very top of Wolf Creek pass right off the highway. Smaller area than the others but lots of steep highmarking and boondocking. Pending on the snow we get this year your choice of trailhead may depend on the snow levels. the closer you go to the top the better the snow, or at least thats the way it was last year.

We stayed at the Arlington Inn and suites, plenty of parking. pool and hot tub, corporate nice, all the other places are a bit rustic. food and gas at the Rainbow (no ethanol).Dining out is limited but we were able to find good eats around town.
