Wireless ABS System! Awesome for the Mountains!

That is a great thing! Can it be added to older bags?

Yes the only thing you need to purchase is the ABS wireless handle which comes with the handle, batteries for the wireless system and a new holder since it is bigger. Super easy to figure out and add people or take people out of the system. I was very impressed with how it works and if you watch the video you can actually see kims trigger go off very quickly after i pull my trigger.
They just did a demo at Tail Gate AK and had 4-5 people all around the building..people were pretty impressed. cheers dave

But it only has a 300m range? Perhaps I don't fully realize how far exactly 300m is but isn't that a pretty low range? Also, is there a way to make it so you can set someone else's off but not your own?
Great technology don't get me wrong, just some minor details im curious about.

Always good to ask! 300meter range is 984 feet...yes this might not be far enough in some cases but if caught hopefully you can pull your own bag, if not or if you see it before the rider does then this system backs it up. Also it pulses for 30 seconds so if the person is further away but is coming down the hill they are getting closer. Because of the range 300 meters of 984 feet is why your bag gets set off as well as you could be involved since you are in close proximity. Hope that helps.

Great concept but I think there should be just a button to push to send that signal so I dont have to set off my bag everytime. I might be in a safe place and I dont want my bag to go off so I can use it later in the day, say on the way out of where ever we are. I dont want to have to travel 20 miles back to the truck with my bag deployed.

The fact is within this range you may be caught as well. Also you don't have to travel back with your bag deployed. Simply let the air out of the bags and fold them in the pack, takes about 3-5 minutes to do this and having 1 spare cartridge and handle between friends is an easy way to re-load your bag in 2 minutes...plus if you are caught in a slide, might be a good time to head back for the day!

VERY COOL VID. Thank you.

Between the wireless ABS bag and the Teth-air, there are some cool wireless products out there.

Curious, how does the teth air help when your sled is on top of you at WOT like the guy that lost his arm? Does it help in that case or how far away from the sled do you have to be to shut the sled off? Reg tether may not help in this either I realize.

Both are these products are compelling!

I believe the tether air can be set but yes that is a great question for a real bad situation.

I understand you can deflate the bag. I do have the ABS Bag. But lets say you have an extra cartridge and handle between friends. If I just deployed a bag which just set off all 4 bags in the group, wouldn't we all need to carry an extra handle and cartridge for each person? I think that is a good idea anyway but a lot of people don't have packs big enough to carry that plus their survival gear they need. All I am saying is it is a great idea concept but in my opinion I would like the option of being able to set off someone else's bag without mine going off as well. If it is sending a wireless signal, why could that not be a possibility?
Its just that even if it is time to return and go home for the day. That avalanche may have happened 20 miles from the truck and we may have to cross a dozen or more avalanche paths to get back to the truck and i just don't want to deploy my pack if it is unnecessary.

if a person was to select remotely which other bag to deploy it could get confusing in a group of three or more..during the crises do ya have to see who ya got selected...??..that takes time...etc

i think it should not be over complicated...its all or nothing...i would rather deal with some inconvenience if it saved a life..

If the trip back out is always a factor then the decision has to be made to carry the extra..jmo...its all steps though in a good direction

Good points. I hadn't thought about that.

One other thing to think about though. What if i am the one on the hill that gets caught in the avalanche and i pull my chord and now it sets off the others in the group even though they are in a safe place. or say one guy is riding through some tight tress when this gets set off and now the bags deploys and as it does it catches the branches and pulls the rider off and or rips the bags as he goes through them.

I am just throwing these out there to see if these issues have been addressed or thought about before. I think the product can be a great thing i can just see a couple problems that could arise. Thats all.
