Winter Festivities for Next Season

Basically I want all ou guys who ride the Uinta's opinion on some stuff. In my thread of Uinta Mountain Riding I posted some stuff about a treasure hunt we used to do out here when I was a kid. I want a little input on some other ideas to bring even more fun to the already exciting sport of snowmobiling.

My brother(and partner) Scott have been talking about this for years. If anyone knows where double hill is (moffat) we used to do a little cross-coutry style race we called the Moffat Run for Fun. It was basically and run what you got type race and the circuit was simple. Riders ran in heats set 5-10 mins apart. First heat would run up the highway and into whitney. Followin the road you would run until the groomed trail stops. Next, racers would run on a marked path towards Double Hill summit (Moffat Summit), across the ridge and down the opposite side. Then they would race across the back of Whitney reservoir and onto the gold hill side of the hill. Then down the gold hill road back to the highway and full bore back to the gate down the highway. The purpose for the race is everyone throws in $5 to enter and winner takes all. It used to be way fun for us and we can revamp the details of the race based on rider input.

The treasure hunt basically was a night ride thing where participants would throw down a $10-$20 bill and one person not participating would tape all the money to a bottle of booze (jack, jim, wine, whatever) and would go hide it in a 5 mile radius up the highway hanging from a tree. The person who hid it would give a clue based on landmarks leading to the treasure. Riders would then set out in the dark and try to locate the landmark clues to find the bottle. Winner got the cash and a bad hangover <--thinking about revamping this one (this was created by drunks:D:beer;) still fun for the most part.

A rider jamboree where everyone would free for all ride the mountains up whitney road (usually double hill/gold hill area) and just have climbing, freestlyle competitions. Side bets were always made like "hey i bet you 30 bucks i can make that chute and you can't" <-- an example. or "i bet i can jump 30 ' further than you can on this gap or cornice drop" <-- an example

I don't know what do you guys think??? we just want to have a really good time this season and bring a wider of variety to our mountain so we can share the joys of this vast range. There are tons of areas to ride but we never have many to ride with. We really want to meet some badazz riders for our friend who owns a video production place here intown, has agreed to film and edit our ventures here in the Uintas. It could become a really big thing but like I said, we don't know many people who can hang with us. Our friends are all noobs to the sport and I get tired of digging their sorry @zz's out of the snow. Hard on my back and a waste of time. We'd like you all to come have a good time with us. And again, our guided tour business is null and void when were inviting you all to just come hang with us for a couple days. The business is for the idiots who have never even seen snow before(tourists which we have an overabundance of in the winter up here), and we basically want them to have a good time and come home safe (not gauranteed (sh*t happens)) But anyways, some feedback on this would be great before I post it up in the general snowmobile section. Fellow Utahans Unite! Live Free, Ride Hard!!:beer;:beer;:D:beer;:beer;

First of all this post is way to long for me to read. I just saw the length of it and figured wooa.......to much reading, maybe later.

I hope that doesn't sound mean, just being honest.

The race doesn't sound like a good idea... Especially racing up the road, and would be tough to organize.
May even have a negative effect on our sport if not done correctly and may not even be possible?
If I go up during the day, my goal is to ride and explore.
The friendly bets sound like a normal day of riding between competetive friends.
The night activities may be fun, but after a long day of riding I would rather be next to a warm fire drinking Jim and coke.
Calling your potential customers "idiots" isn't a good idea IMO.
Sorry if my post is negative, just giving my thoughts on your ideas.
You do come off a little cocky in your posts at times too.
Mike

Wish you wouldn't sugar coat things Mike. LMAO ;)
I feel it's best for the sport to fly under the radar. If your going to have an organized event, take it back in the hills where you're not impeding on others that may complain. We get enough made up bad publicity without creating more for ourselves. Too many other recreational peeps up there just trying to have a good time.

Sounds like that might be a good day for a Franklin invite for SH and GP.:rolleyes::beer;

oh no i won't.. i got too many local riders who have no association with this forum who have positive things and even better ideas.. feel free to drop down and join us this winter!!!:beer;:beer;

well, you asked for feedback....

i think mike brought up some real good points, such as:

-you do seem very cocky.

nobody can hang with you, tired of diggin peeps out, (you never been stuck?)all the badazz stuff you do, quit givin a f*** 15 years ago,etc. etc.
you've been on this forum all of what, 3 weeks? i dont know if any of the "regulars" have had a chance to ride with you or not this past year, but mabey let your riding do your talking, not your mouth. you may very well be all that and a bag of doughnuts. if you are, we'll know soon enuff. you wont need to tell us.

-calling potential customers "idiots" might be a very quick way of ruining your business before it ever gets started.

they might get on the UTAH thread on snowest and read about it..... most peeps do alot of internet research before they commit the time and $$ to a big adventure. never know what a search engine just might pull up... but more than that, it belies an underlying attitude that just doesnt go well with any type of business that is centered around customer service.

-a "race" on public roads/lands, while alot of fun, could definately have a negative impact on our sport.

there are alot of other recreational pursuits who share these same accesses to the backcountry. as snowmobilers we are constantly fighting to save our riding areas. those opposed to motorized recreation dont really need more ammo to use against us. you'd absolutely have to get all the proper authorization and permits from USFS, counties, or any municipalities involved, as well as insurance, safety, crowd control and such. lots of work for an afternoon of fun. i think most of us would just as soon head for the high country and enjoy a day of riding.

lastly - you ask for feedback, someone gives some, and you jump on 'em with a smart@ss reply. whats up with that??

Lets keep this civil... You run a business, I am just a snowest lurker... Being profeshional will benifit you more than it will me.
You asked for our imput and I gave my opinion... I am only one of many... Please don't take my post so personal.
Those that know me know I speak my mind, I truely am sorry if I offended you.
And no, I didn't say I would not attend, but it depends on how things are done and I am not 100% sure that this will be a postitive thing for snowmobilers in that area.
I think my "cocky" comment was what offended you and I am sorry for that.
If you were not running a business I would have never made that comment.
I definately could have tried a different way to get my point across.
I am sure you are a great guy and I will ride with you anytime I have the chance.
I know I rub people the wrong way at times.
I try to be aware of it and make a conscious effort not to do so.
Mike

Ron: I look forward to riding bikes with you and your wife and friends this summer!:beer;
We didn't get a chance to ride the snow, but it wasn't because I was not invited.
You are welcome to come up to FB anytime!
My brother and his wife are going to attempt to drive up there this weekend... Not sure if they will be succesful, I hope so.
I will let you and others know in advance when I plan on going up... Plenty of room for you and your family to stay, and some good bike riding and beautiful scenery if you have the right guide:D
Like I said, a friend of hectors is a friend of mine!:beer;

Mike, good post.

I personally didn't like any of the ideas, but that's just me.

I like the Unitas the way they are. Nice and quiet. We go there to get away from it all. The last thing I would want is a lot more people racing up the highway.

I could see our riding areas disappearing before our very eyes if you were to promote these activities.

wow mike! you just climbed a few notches on the respect-o-meter :D
offering an apology when none was needed, IMO.

your points were quite valid, and comments pretty much hit the nail on the nead!

props to ya, man!! :beer;:beer;

Man ok I got it. SO I come off cocky, don't mean to by no means. I just throw my points out and you take em the way you like. As for the "idiots" part, no pun intended on potential customer, I refer to my idiotic group of friends who have no clue wtf their up to out here... Its funny, you'd have to be here to see what I mean.. I got the point on the games thing.. You may have seen it differently back in the 80's when this was all going on, it was a fun time.. guess times change, as for the "no one can hang with me" was portrayed towards my friends, nobody else.. we haven;t ridden with "experienced" riders in over 5 years, not many of em over in e-town.. guess i don't see the reason for keepig the uinta's nice n quiet. Seems like a thunderstorm out there every weekend anyways, why not have a little fun. Guess i'm not old enough to see things your way.. but we'll leave this as is. Mike, no offense taken.. didn't mean to seem ignorant by no means... just my buddies in town thought it was an awesome idea and their looking forward to it.. guess the salt lake valley and where i'm from are two different worlds. As for the racing on public roads, my dads friend Steve Rosser is head of the north slope division in the Forest Service and he told me yesterday when he popped by the house that he thinks it would be alot of fun and offered a hand getting the ball rolling if we needed it.. dunno, i'm the idiot i suppose.. The feed back is great. Glad to see where you all stand on the issue. Mike again, you had nothing to apologize for, running a business involves having the ability to take costructive criticizm and if my reply was offensive, my bad. Anyways glad to hear where the Utahans stand on the issue, will take into consideration.. thanks guys

sledhead ctiticizes my amount of posting here.. reason being is were conducting alot of research here and we have tons of questions and opinions on stuff and we just want to see how the sport has progressed/degressed over the past 10 years.. things were alot different then from what I gather so far, alot of fluxuating opinions on different stuff. It's nice to see how involved everyone is and were trying to catch up with the times. Were used to loading up a 12 pack and heading up the trails <--people will probably degrade me yet again based on this statement, but popularity is NOT why we joined this forum.. came to get input, catch up with the times, and see what kind of people actually live 2 ride.. all i can say is man times have changed bigtime.. think we'll just stick to how we do, its fun for us at least, again so everyone understands, no pun intended.. thanks for your time
