Anyone know the best way to get from Pilot Creek parking lot by Cooke city Montana to Sheridan Wyoming(Bighorn Mountain)? I tried using Mapquest but not trusting the route they gave do to winter road closures. Thanks

Head to bozeman Montana from there its all interstate to billings about 2 hrs and then from billings to Sheridan around 2 hrs again all interstate

So from Pilot Creek parking lot, the fastest way would be to head back to Billings and then down to Sheridan. Is it possible to head towards Cody and come in that way? Thanks

Go to Cody, then hit 14 to Shell and up over the Big Horns to Ranchester then hit 90 to Sheridan.

So Hwy 14 doesn't close at all in the winter and is open from Shell all the way to Burgess Junction? Do you know if this is the fastest way from the Pilot Parking lot to Bear lodge or would it be better to stay on the freeway and go to Billings then down to Sheridan? How many hour drive are we talking? Thanks

I'm not sure if its closed from were u are to Cody, but from Cody up to bear is open on 14

14 is a good road. People use it daily. In the winter on good roads it's about 2.5 to 3 hr drive. Some times when we are in the Horns we quit riding early to burn down the hill to go to Cassie's in Cody for the best steak in Wy. It's about 90 min. from Burgess.

That's more like it! Mapquest had me going all the way back up to Billings and coming down to Sheridan and was something like 5 plus hours... Thanks for the lead on the good steak, we will time it so we can stop there and check it out... Thanks

So where is this pilot creek parking area? I dont know much about this area.

It's about 10 miles east of Cooke city, Montana on highway 212. It's a parking lot for people trying to get to Cooke that live on the east side. You have to park truck/trailer in lot and ride snowmobile in to town...

head to cody, over to greybull on hwy 20, and up hwy 14, they only close 14A from burgess junction to lovell,

But either way i was looking at the forecast and both places are suppose to be getting dumped on in the next 2-3 days

Up to 2 feet of snow forecasted for the horns, also with winds up to 60mph! If its does that it would not surprise me if they close the road for a day or two, was up there last year for a trip to the south end and when we came back to leave there was a 3 foot drift across the highway in front of elk view and it didnt even storm that bad! So check the road report before you head up.

We're leaving next Wednesday so hopefully the roads open, but still snowing of coarse!!! LOL Thanks

If the roads are bad its the same amount of time to go from Cody -billings - Sheridan as it is from Cody over to Sheridan thru the mnt , that is if u are dropping clear down into Sheridan

Sounds pretty nasty up there right now! Want to take your :clock: for sure.

Anyone know of more hotel options up there? I called for rooms for March 1,2,3,4 and it's all booked up... Bummer

Did u call all three lodges ? If they are full ranchester is right off the hill then Sheridan would be the next bet if u have to stay in Sheridan its a hour drive to ride
