Why so many BD Turbos for sale?

Just seemed to notice in the swap meet area that there are lots of Boon Docker Turbo set ups for sale. Is this because they are the most popular kit or are the problematic. I don't see many MCX boosted sleds for sale.

there are a lot of every type of sled and configuration for sale...about a month ago, same question was asked but PowderLites and then a few weeks before that it was MCX, etc. etc.

Couple questions to the BD owners

Heres a dumb question but is the center of gravity altered by having the turbo on this side of the sled like the BD kit, also when boon docking on the right hand side in deeper snow, does the air filter get clogged easily? Thanks.

boondocker is an entry level kit and has its down sides. They all have down sides, It just seems that the boondocker sleds out there are on stock chassis and are stupid cheap. The boondockers kit does work, it just needs some massaging of some parts to make them work better. So if you know that and have some dough you can buy yourself a decent sled for cheap.

I don't notice the extra weight on my BD rx-1. I actually figured that I would notice the weight of the turbo out there, but I don't, and I ride lots of trees. Putting a 3" side dump pipe makes it more responsive and gets a lot of underhood heat out. Other than that its just like any other turbo. With good clutching and jetting in my situation I get over 80mph track speed at 14lbs of boost. That's with a maverick track, so they like to spin. I did have to belt sand the header flat because it was warped and do a few other minor things to it, but all in all it works really good. If I wanted to run 20lbs of boost all the time I would probably choose a different kit, but from what I've found anything over 17lbs is just for drag racing and is uncontrollable when climbing a hill with obstacles.

I recently did some work on an Apex with Boondocker GT28 without shim running 14lbs. After taking it out for some testing "clutch tuning" I would not shy away from one at all if I was in the market. Have seen some pretty good deals on the BDApexes myself. Might just be due to their popularity. BD sold a lot of those kits.

The BD kit moves the oil reservoir and puts it under the intercooler. This allows the turbo to be balanced against the clutches. Its not perfectly balanced, but enough that you would never notice.

You have to watch the snorkel and keep the snow off of it, but in most powder it pulls air very efficiently. I have rode days where it was a problem, but no more so than any of the other sleds were having in the same conditions regardless of snorkel location. One good thing I've noticed is if it does get iced up, it sits above the hot turbo and will melt off from heat. We've had a much bigger problem keeping the Impluse snorkels de-iced for this reason. Were finding that the pre-filter on any snorkel needs to be big enough it does not fit tight or it will get iced up.

BOONDOCKERS TURBO

SIMPLE REASON , LOTS ARE FOR SALE BECAUSE THEY ARE A GOOD TURBO KIT , THEY SELL MORE THAN ALL THE OTHERS COMBINED
