Why no cats for sale?

I have been in the market for a new sled , just as soon as i sell my current sled or a dirt bike-hint hint-, and i have noticed that there is tons of older 99-04 polaris sleds for sale cheap but no older cats for sale except for the 900's. i was just wondering why this is cause i don't want a 900 i really want a 600 to 800 cat but i am having a hard time finding them. just wondering why.

A lot of it is simply the number of sleds sold those years. Polaris was the number one selling sled those years (at least most of those years). Cat didn't really have a competitive mountain sled until the 1M came out and thus their sales suffered. When the 1M came out most people skipped the 800 and bought the 900.

Why would want an 800 and not a 900? That does'nt make any sense. Same sled, same weight, same reliability, same fuel use, more power????

Not sure on the year. Its black with like orange decals. Maybe 01 or 02 or 03?

I agree with 03 being the first really competitive year. Maybe 01 with the 800 got them in the ballpark.

I'd stay far away from the Powder Specials

I think the RMK, Summit and Mountain Max are all better sleds

I'm not flamming anyone (or Cat) but I personally think an Edge 800 is a much better sled with many more aftermarket ad-ons available.

Someone else hit it on the head though...Polaris outsold everyone during those years. Just as Ski-Doo has for the last few years.

I don't really understand this post. The Edge 800 has very little aftermarket ad-ons compared to the 800/900 cat. Look at how many big bores there are available for the 800/900 cat compared to the Edge 800. The edge 800 also has substantial crank problems, not saying the the 800/900 cat is much better but I am fairly certain that most 900 cats would blown the doors off an Edge 800.

I doubt he was talking about the engine. The edge got up on the snow better than the pre 03' cats. It had better suspention and factory skis than cat. When cat came out with the 1M it leveled the playing field and the M series finally passed them up.

Yes, there were more to those sleds than the motor. I always felt that there were more upgrades out there for the Polaris. SLP and Carls Cycle were pretty much Polaris modders. I'm not attacking your sled, just giving my $.02

And I don't doubt a 900 took care of an 800 (probably the extra 100 cc's?). But what about the Cat 800 and the Edge 800?

I've never actually been on a good running cat 800, the only one that I have ever actually been on had a broken spider. I am basing this off of actual personal experience, I also have a 2004 edge 800 with an slp single and other upgrades in my garage. The suspension is not too bad, but it doesn't come close to handling like my 900 with a forward steering post.

I agree that the 02 on up EDGE 800s are better then the 01-02 800 Mtn Cats. 03 1Ms should be comparable

I think the 700 is more reliable and in my experience, runs just as well.

There is no question that once you pull the sway bar and narrow the stance the EDGE handles better. Ridden both and still think the EDGE is a good handling older chassis.

I love my M8 but I think the old 1Ms handle like a damn tank. Only thing worse is the REV IMO.

it wasn't a i'm lookin for a new sled post i'm just curious cause i haven't seen many. and i have ridden an 01 polaris 700 with a custom tunnel and twin pipes and thought it rode just like my 500 cat as far as feel goes i think i would have enjoyed it alot more but it wasn't quite set up right for the elevation we were riding at i agree that polaris makes a great sled but i just love the reliability of cat and i have found lots of mods for the 01-04 800 mc. guess i am just bias?
