Why didn't you go to Baker today? 2-28-10

I went up with 2thetop and hit Baker in the early AM. Never been first out of the parking lot (road?) ha ha. Dang is the snow level high. Looks like only 3 or 4 feet of snow by the bridge near the bathrooms. :face-icon-small-sho Parking lot was easy coming early.

The snow? Fantastic!! 2thetop got stuck a couple of times just trying to get out of the main bowl area on the way to big house. Never broke trail out of there, ,man that was fun. It was weird climbing up and having the flat light make it so you didn't know what was coming a head of you. Sure makes for some interesting moments.

A little while later the sun started coming out and was making everything better!!

After we pounded that out a little bit, we headed up further and the snow just kept on getting better and better. Down hill carving was a blast! Man is that so much fun!! Ended up going down the mountain around 2pm because I was beat. Didn't put many miles on and didn't burn through too much gas but it sure feels like it. Sessioning an area really tires you out compared to just traveling around. Ended the day with almost too much sun. lol It was so bright that I still lost some definition, man it is interesting how the sun can effect things up there.

There was a lot of people up there today too. Looked like there were vehicles parked down the road for about a 1/2 mile or so. It is nice having a short trail ride back to the vehicles, but it doesn't look good for a long spring season.

pictures coming in the morning.

I figured it cleared up later up there. Was I right??

I don't even waste my time there anymoe without sun. Kinda scares me not knowing where the holes are.. SURPRISE!!

Why???? cuz I was riding Blewett on Sat and GC on Sun, both were stellar for this year.

yah, the sun came out around 10am or so. Agreed, I try and make it up when the forecast is "mostly sunny" or better only.

Thanks for the ride today, conditions were great and so was the company. Yes there were a few sticks:doh: to start the day, but if you aint stickin you aint trying.:second: Nice to get up there early and beat the crowds, I counted 64 rigs parked on the way down.

Yeah, but damn the snow was deep and heavy. We had 2 xp's and 4 dragons and they were all blowing belts like they were made of pantyhose. Day ended early cause everyone was going through them to quick.

Me, well I blew my big belt:(

Trying to get above hood hill. Never broke the trail through here before. Man, the light sure was interesting. You would crest the hill and then it just went all white. I didn't know where I was going nor what was coming next so I would get scared and go back down..

I decided to do a little demonstration on how to dig your sled out just in case you were to get stuck. Remember, demonstration only!!! ha ha

So the story with the above pictures goes like this. I was doing awesome down hill carves, my running boards were filling up, I was getting tired and I ended up getting thrown / dropped from the sled. I took a brake, relaxed, then when I went to move I was stuck. I pulled on it a little bit, but I was still stuck. I dug this "demonstration" and my sled was free of the snow. Unfortunately I had been taking so long that I think the snow in the track / tunnel began to freeze / solidify up. I went to pull away and smoked my belt. I was kind of pissed but honestly this is the first belt on my sled that I HAD to remove. Kind of interesting hitting the throttle and seeing your sled turn from a snowmobile to a smoke machine!!!

Pretty scenery

We were ripping it up, about nine of us one skis, lots of interested folks after I convinced that gal taking pics of us on the M7 to take a spin.

I even tried to do my part by trying/ending a few Twoskis, let go of a guys M1000 going up Big House, came to a rest half a mile later. Then there was this Mountain Cat, sorry man, your next Twoski!:face-icon-small-hap

Beautiful fun day I'm sore. :face-icon-small-sho

nice! Glad you had fun.

The flat light conditions can be quite dangerous - as you found out. Have been stuck at Big House for hours. . . waiting for a break, to inch off mountain.

send a blind guy... They don't care anyways... :biggrin1:

Nice write-up and pics Dave! I see it was clasic Cascade Concrete!
BTW those snow depth pics look like what we would see in early May.....during a normal year.:face-icon-small-sad

Great post, Ruffy!! Sweet pictures!

It is because of flat light conditions experienced at Mt. Baker that I simply won't ride anything but a groomed trail when there is no definition.

Say it with me now...."W A T E R F A L L". :face-icon-small-dis
