Why are you guys moving some threads?

I've been keeping track of an anouncement about a quiet muffler that OVS has been developing. I didn't see a price in the thread let alone if they are even available.

I'm not sure what is going on "politically" with this forum, but I think ya messed up on that move.

If he has a muffler or ten for sale..... move it. If he has a pipe or two for sale move it. If someone has a motor kit for sale move it...............If he's anouncing a new product leave it be!:face-icon-small-con

I agree, if someone has a new product they have designed let us know about it in whatever forum section it relates. When they are ready to sell them then post in the swap area. Otherwise you don't see the new stuff coming out.

I asked the same questions about the twisted turbos new cold air intake thread last weekend, I think they should just leave them be, but if they are going to move one, they should move them all.

I agree as well, it was just a product announcement I think it should stay where it was. Just my 2 cents

Clarification

I asked the same questions about the twisted turbos new cold air intake thread last weekend, I think they should just leave them be, but if they are going to move one, they should move them all.

Meaning Product info.

If you are a paid advertiser you can put swap meet stuff anywhere you want. AS INSTRUCTED BY SW.

Swap meet in swap meet but new product FYI should be allowed in my opinion.

Exactly! Thanks Kevin :)

Snowest will not let new product announcements from companies go any place but in swapmeet unless we spend money to advertise with them. Christopher said that you must be a paid advertiser and then you can put product anyware you want. The snowest forum is what snowest wants you to see from companies that spend advertising money with them and not a public forum for the consumer. I paid my premium membership and so have alot of you on this forum, I think we should be able to post and talk about what is important to the members not just what Snowest wants us to see and talk about from companies that spend money to advertise with them.

I agree it should be left alone and not moved. If these are to be moved, the folks at SW forgot to move a whole pile of them.

Now comes a question: Movement of posts is supposed to help tidy up data in the forum. In what way does a bunch of posts with lots of replys moved to a swap meet section tidy up that section?

Come on Christopher, grab a hand full and step up on this one. If it's illegal, immoral, or just plain stupid.....move it, delete it or what ever, but these posts provide to much value to be moving. Please move them all back!

PS: I would suggest that informing the original post's author of the protocol and how to do it better "next time" is way better than pulling the plug and causing this kind of grief!

So wait, your not even a paid avertiser? If this was my forum I wouldn't let you advertise here either. Almost every forum that I have ever been on is that way. I have to agree with Christopher on this one. Hell, now knowing your not a paid advertiser, I can't beleive Christopher let this go on for as long as he did, Most places would have killed that business immediately.
Your a business - where else are you able to advertise for free that makes you think you should be able to get a free ride here as well?
Thats crazy, spent the money to advertise here, this is the biggest mountain sled forum that I know of, If you aren't advertising here where are you spending money to advertise?

I have advertised with Snowest and have been putting a new ad campain together with Gregg Mannwering as we speak. This will make me stand back and make a decision if it is a good idea to advertise with Snowest or not.

So is OVS gonna do the same?

They are one in the same.

i like seeing new product info, weather it be a new quiet muffler, cold air intake or what ever, you would think with how deathly slow snowest has become they would leave posts where people will see them and comment.

Let's see if I understand this thought?

It's not OK to share or announce some innovation or idea on this site, profitable (or not) unless you pay extra to be an advertiser. The you can post anywhere you like.

It is OK to help answer countless questions about fuel regulators, fuel pumps, gearing recommendations...........or confirm or disagree with countless theories............or share findings that were learned at typically some expense out of the R&D pocket............or generally cause a ruckus that get's peoples juices flowing, for the good of the sport.........all of which happens to provide Snowest and Christopher some income.

So if I understand Shain, Gus, Kelsy, Travis,(the list goes on) need to be paid advertisers for us to see what cool stuff is coming down the snowy path.

I'm sorry sir; I respectfully and whole heartedly disagree

I say again...........bring back the posts!

Here's my 2 cents on the topic.

Tony, I agree.... I think that new product announcements and FYI's are good for the forums... It lets the members know what is out there... just don't turn it into spam.

That spam includes a huge Signature that is promoting your business and its products or links to your webpage if you are announcing stuff... keep your signature box "un checked" IMO if you are announcing a product.

There is a place for a link to your BUSINESS webpage in your drop-down Username menu... not in your signature.

If you have a new product that is cool... great.... Let people know about it.

If you are advertising something that is on sale/blowout/clearance or something that is NOT actually new..... for your business....SWAPMEET.

If you pony up the exrtra dollars to advertise like Better Boards, TracksUSA, Holz, Polaris, Z-Broz, EZ-Ride, Slednecks, Doo/Poo/Yami/Cat.... then you get some "Perks" from that... within limits. That is reasonable from the admin point of view AND for those that ARE paying for advert here.

I like seeing what is new and exciting from the different mfgs out there... we are not talking about shops that are millionaires.. most are "mom and pop" deals that are barely cutting it in the first place. Helps keep the community going for the betterment of sledding in general.

IMO, if you are on here hawking your wares left and right and finding that you are reaching your customers... consider your advert strategy.

Think of it this way... If this was not looked after in some way, you would see more sled-product-spam on the forums to wade thru than real posts... and lots of people are already up in arms about receiving an extra PM in their in-box, LOL.

Heck.. this place is easy... If you are on Thumper talk, you have to pay $500 per month to post your Business stuff in the open forums (non swapmeet) this is in addition to any money you have paid for advert.

The swapmeet is free.. and if you want people to stay on top of things you have to offer, post up frequent updates and take the time to manage you swapmeet posts so that your potential customers remain up-to-date on your products.

If your "New Product FYI" turns into questions about your current offering or about a sale... direct them to your swapmeet thread which you should also be running if you want to keep your potential customers informed.

Generally, if I see a new product... I put up FYI's about them on the main forums to let the members know what is out there even if the mfg does not post it up.

BTW... All of the Advert income $$ goes directly to Harris Publishing, not to SnoWest forums operation. That is the way it is laid down from the management from the start.

Hey Horse, thanks for some clarification. The folks who have been moved now have some guidelines to follow.

I would suggest bringing back some of the other moved posts and letting those folks know about the above suggestions, and then when a perceived line is crossed, action can be taken with some definite understanding of the foul.

Then we can learn from this experience.

I like seeing new products and whatnot as well. But like was said above, it has to be regulated.
Go to almost any other reputable forum and this is the way it is. You can't post stuff like this if you are a business trying to make profit unless you pay.

I do however think that the money from the advertising should go to the forum though. THIS IS WRONG!!!!!!! This money should go towards runing the forum. Also, I have been on the business end of this in the past, in the car world non the less, but I think what some of these forums ask for advertising is a bit high though. It does make it hard for the mom & pop to make it go.

It's fine that you disagree, I have to side with the MODS on this one. I certainly don't side with them on every or a lot of their decisions, but this one is right. And if they decide to allow it again, I'm cool with it.
