Why are you brand loyal? (Pickup trucks)

Whether we want to admit it or not, most of us are brand loyal to an extent.
Tell us why you are.

I have every reason to be a GM guy.
But from my posts I've been accused of being a Ford guy.
Well after thinking about it I guess I am.

We have a GM store in our small hometown & they are a valuable employer.
My buddy & neighbor sells there.

Because of these reasons I try to buy there as often as I can. Especially if they have a nice Ford trade in.

The auto bail-out will likely prevent me from ever buy a new GM or Chrysler ever again.

The way our govt handled that was horrible.
Why did exec keep their big salary jobs?
Why did some vendors get taken care of while others were left to fail (failing due to non or partial payments, not from their own mis-management.
Why did the unions come out smelling like a rose?
Why were some dealers FORCED to forfeit their franchises?(Many of these were financially healthy dealerships)

For our govt to use our Grandchildren's tax dollars to play political chess, choosing who stays, who goes is something I will never be comfortable with.

These companies could have went through traditional bankruptcy and survived.
Why would anyone be comfortable with our politicians playing such reckless games with our money?

This is why I will not buy another new GM or Chrysler.

Even though ford has also taken money from the government and still owed more money then GM but that's another topic.

To me I'm brand loyal to vehicles because I don't like change. I've always been raised in a Chevy of gmc pick up. The parents have gmc SUVs. I love the looks of the gm trucks and lets face it they have a more reliable motor then the fords. But I do really like the interior of the fords and the new 6.7's don't look bad either. Now that gm changed their interior it's over best truck hands down! Plus the ford just reminds me of a cowboy hillbilly vehicle I guess I'm more of a city boy! That Denali duramax is just classy

Mafesto, I did label you a Ford guy but it wasn't in a hateful way.

I am a GM guy (I've had Chevy and now a GMC). It's like sleds. Guys will fight for their brand to the end. The great thing is that there are three really good HD trucks (county Chevy/GMC as one) available for peeps. There are a solid 4-5 half ton trucks available as well. Each has something to brag about over the others.

I am brand loyal only to parts of rigs.....I usually only own ford trucks (I love the body styles and interiors) But My f-350's Always get cummins motors installed in them with the dodge trans and t-cases also... My daily driver for a long time was a GMC suv. Until I finished my last f350 cummins swap(1994 f350 single cab single wheel with a warmed over 12v in it)

And on the note of the bail outs etc...That is a hard subject for me as the dealership I work at, We lost not only our GM franchise but also Our chrysler franchise when that decline happened. the dealership had been a chrysler dealer since 1964 (gm since 1962) And under the same ownership since it was opened(Not a fun deal to have to see the 84 year old owner break down in front of the crew as he watched the sign company remove and destroy the signs from our shop) But In my personal position at the shop(shop foreman) It has actually opened many more doors to growth being freed from the shackles of contractual obligations(I.E. drop shipped special tools we were forced to buy at about twice what Snap on would charge etc) and franchise fees/ flooring the lot etc.

I'm not brand loyal but I'm very engine loyal I never want to get rid of my old 12 valve cummins. I would drive a prius if it had a cummins in it

You are so right each has something to bring to the table, Ram has the Cummins, GM has the allison and ride quality, and ford Has the interior/ride quality. I my self will never own a duramax(I have to work on them sorry SOBs and nothing is easy or cheap to fix)

I have had a few Ram's over the years But all and All I am a ford guy I like the fords because the sheet metal is thicker, they have the better running gear and a great payload capacity, I cannot stand there drive trains though, that is why they all get the Dodge drive trains put in them.

I think it all comes down to what you are doing with the trucks I live in a ranching community and all you will see here is Ram 3500's and F350's a few duramax's (usually only get used for the long road trips). And out of them all the cummins trucks out last the others twice over( I work on a 2004 ram 3500 with 678,xxx miles on it and it is still on its first drive train)

I've always been a ram guy, I've owned 5, 4 diesels, still own an 05 and a 13 diesel, i typically run them to 250k miles or more, without any major repair bills, so.far anyway.
I think it's just what a guy is used to owning/servicing/driving. I think everyone just ends up trusting a certain brand, even though the other choices are very equal.

Well said and I agree! I have always owned a Ford. I've looked at others but always get a Ford truck. It was probably because my dad has had Ford trucks as long as I can recall. Sure they have issues, but so do the others. I do like the solid axle front ends I will say I think they could do better not he fuel mileage. Seems like the others do better based on friends and what they drive.

Its not that I'm brand loyal to a brand. Its just that I can't believe how bland the gm's and ford's have looked over the last 15 years. Not counting the new 2010+ fords as I think those are pretty sharp. So with that said when I had money to buy my first new truck it was a dodge. I use them for work so I get a lot of miles on them. I've had 2 02's, an 03, an 04, an 06, an 09 and now a 2012. All bought either new or with less than 40k miles and all traded off or sold at around 200k. Total list of parts not counting wear items. 1 power steering pump, 1 alternator, 2 fuel pumps, 2 wheel bearings and 1 set of u joints. Why would I switch at this point?

I use to be fiercely brand loyal and now I don't care because I don't have time to argue what is better. I buy GM because it's the only dealer in town. Except my new truck, I didn't want something just big enough pull what I want.

Every truck has their problems, saying one brand is junk because you saw one on the side of the road once is quite frankly ignorant.

I'm not. As long as it's not a Dodge. :)

I'm a gm guy due to personal experience. i was raised in a die hard ford family and when i turned 16 that's what i was lookin for but being in highschool and broke i took what i could get and ended up with a '73 Chevy 4x4. in the time of owning that truck i watched family members have issues with there fords and a few chrysler products but the ol chev just kept pluggin away and had no major issues that i didnt cause by being young and havin fun. granted that was a whole different ball game than the trucks of today and they dont make them like that anymore, but that was the most reliable truck ive owned and what sold me on gm. ive since owned three other gm trucks and only had a major issues with one, headgaskets on my 05 dmax, other than that theyve ran like clocks so until i see a reason to switch i'll stay a gm guy. it musta rubbed off a little because now days the whole family has converted and all drive gm. like mentioned they all have theyre pros and cons and it all comes down to personal preference.

I was always a GM guy, but when deciding on a new truck this spring I went with an ecoboost F150 platinum. The GM's had the same body style for forever and didn't want to wait for the new ones to come out or deal with any first year issues of the new 5.3 ecotec motor. So far, after 10000 miles on the Ford I am happy with it and have no complaints. Very nice interior, huge back seat and flat floor for hauling, eco tows excellent gets decent mileage and the suspension on the truck is very stable/stiff when pulling a trailer. Does not ride as smooth as a GM though. Ill probably trade in a few years and will be giving the redesigned GMC 2500HD's a look for sure. Seen a few pics online and they look great!

This is why I will not buy another new GM or Chrysler.

I could see myself in a 2015 or 2016 3/4 ton Sub in about 4 or 5 years.
Don't know why, but I've been wanting one. Would have got one this time if the right one would have turned up before the ecoboost did.

So I am not 100% brand loyal I guess.

I'm not brand loyal as much as there are brands I just don't care for. I don't much care for anything dodge, ford, or Nissan to name a few. A combo of styling, packaging, marketing, problems they caused me at work, yada yada. Kinda like I've never bought a Yamaha dirt bike, or a cat sled. Nothing specifically devastating about them....they've just never done it for me.

I'd buy anything if it was the right deal tho....literally

I do like gms just cause....I like em. I do like toyotas because I've had a bunch and they have really proven their durability to me.

I have had Ford, GM, and Mopar back in the day. Right now I own, Ford, Jeep, and GM. Why am I brand loyal? I am brand loyal to the American worker. Anything made by the American worker (taxpayer) I try to buy.
