who's running a two stroke on snow ?

A friend of mine just did a piston swap. He had two summers of hard MX on it and two winters on the snowbike. Everything looked perfect, rings getting sloppy was all. I would think every other year would be sufficient. Then again, for $150 bucks, I would just make a quick swap each fall, after the summer riding.

So on dirt I do about 130 hours a year... 2800 miles or so... then do the top end on my 300 so I could just keep that schedule?

Hey guys, I visited with Eddie Sanders of Sanders Racing last night, about their YZ 325. That will be a great option for any YZ's out there.

Also, I have worked with Eric Gorr for many years. He has more time on a flow-bench than about anyone in the world. His work is known world wide and second to none. He has many options for 2 stroke bikes. 295/300 kits that have been raced and tested world wide. YZ, KX, RM, KTM and others. Also, read his articles under "Tech self-help", on 2 stroke top end and performance. A ton of info from porting, to timing, compression, pipes, reeds and so on... I thought I would post his link as well to help folks quickly find a resource for building a great performing 300 class 2-stroke.

If your going big bore has anyone seen this kit for the cr500... They say they are pushing about 100hp.
We. Rpmmfg.com the cr625!!!!!!

I agree with earlier comment that any new snowbike rider is a plus, cause there's hardly anybody to ride with currently. But for whatever it's worth, I started off on my '10 KTM 300 XCW and immediately realized the Tsled kit would burn the bike up in short order - you're fully on the pipe all day. Yes it can be done, but be honest about wear/tear. Unwilling to sacrifice my single track woods bike, I picked up a Husaberg 570 for snow. Haven't ridden it yet - prepped up all pretty in my garage, put in stiffer front springs, etc. Pretty sure it'll be the ticket.

Thats the only way to ride a 2 stroke is on the pipe,!

I heard this doesn't make much power !

What there claiming I think not... But I do know they have done a couple for the sand and Hill climbs locally and I have been told they were able to 100hp on the dyno... I think I would still go turbo for consistency.....

KX500

I just picked up a LT for my KX500, boring and re-nikasil the cylinder to a 523, Porting, 40mm Smart carb, Penton digital ignition with lighting, hand warmers and lights. One slight problem I cant find anybody in southern Utah that has a snowbike.

Ran my kx500af near revy 2 full days. couple things that might help others

-i have no t-stat and the temps were perfect. 120-140F most of the day. ranging from trail to powder.

-you get a bit of cold-pipe if your bike has sat for a minute. could wrap it or something but its not a huge deal. just have to wait maybe 20 seconds before moving if youre going to need full power right off the hop

-if youre riding hard and have any length of a ride in to the alpine from the parking lot, youre going to need more fuel than the oem bike and timbersled additional can.

-should have a good headlight. on the way down the hill at the end of the day i went from 5th gear railing around corners to 1st gear barely moving in about 20min as the sun set and i couldnt see as much

Interesting about the tstat. We're you in deep powder all day ? Some have used a 70C stat and barely made your temps. Where and how do u measure the temps ?

What are you running for a carb ? Jetting ?

Where did u ride ? Pics ?

Cheers

I looked at that engine, Just about did it.... ha! Should be a killer. Eric said they are amazing everywhere! While they are working on it, I would call Eric and have him install the compression release in the head. Small job, not expensive, and well worth it. They start fine without it, but those big strong "kicks" will kill your expensive snow boots.

If you've ever had to kick over a 650 Husaberg the two strokes feel like a TTR 125

I'm planning on running a CR500 with 38mm smart carb, just curious what oil is everyone using for premix, ratios?

Thanks

Amsoil interceptor at 40:1

Have heard from a lot of people that Redline is an excellent oil but I refuse to pay that much a gallon and have ran Amsoil for several thousand miles without any engine issues.

Oil/Ratio topics are always very opinionated and somebody has had a failure of some sort with every oil out there.

Before I sold my sled, I had been running Amsoil synthetic for several years and loved it. It smoked less, the smoke wasn't blue and it didn't stink. Maybe that takes away from some people's idea of what a "two-smoke" should smell like, but it worked great for me. :face-icon-small-win

We ride mostly boulder this early. Access to other spots is sketchy this early

Running deep pow, temp sensor right out of the head. Bored kehin 39mm at 175m and 55p. Way too lean though. Rode with choke out all day haaha. Will go up to 190 / 65 I'm thinking. 114 from AFD mixed 50/50 with pump at 25/1 castrol synthetic
