Who rides out of Timberlakes???

Having a large group from Calif in for the annual snowmobile trip during Pres weekend. We have always gone to the cabin in IP, but since it is now sold, we rented a place in Timberlakes. In the group, we will have a few kids (10 yrs old to 14 years old) a few adults who have only rode once per year for the past 4 years, and a couple of decent (intermediate) riders. Usually have 6-8 sleds, go out in groups a couple times during each day, so ride right from the cabin, go play, come back, and another group goes out. I understand that there is an access/exit on top (to the south?) and that it takes you to riding areas (Tower area??) A couple of questions please!
1. Is this trail out of Timberlakes groomed? Marked?
2. Will the younger kids and less experienced riders be able to get out and have some good play areas(meadows, small hills, etc?)?
3. What areas for the intermediate riders - none of them are into any big climbs.
4. Any other info

As always, we will do our avalanche prep in advance (snowest, avy reports, refresher course on beacon use, search, etc) Thanks in advance.

We ride there quite a bit....

The trail is groomed but only up top....here is a link to the grooming report http://www.snowut.com/mirrorlkmillh.htm

The trail head is not marked but if you are staying at a cabin up there....the parking lot that is at the end of the main road is the trail head....you just keep heading up the road until you break out on top and you can either go right or left....left will take you back towards Mill Hollow and right(south) will take you towards tower mountain and eventually towards strawberry.

There are plenty of meadows and open areas to play in for the less experienced riders and you can also have plenty of the steep and deep....if you want. Snowpack is pretty unstable right now but slowly improving....check the website before you go so you can get up to date conditions

If you head back towards Mill hollow there are plenty of play areas that are good for intermediate riders....small hills....a few cornices to play on and plenty of open meadows. Same goes for Tower Mountain....as you head up the trail you can dive off to the east and play in the trees and open meadows....some great boondocking in there.

Will be a great place for the group of riders that you have....nothing to extreme and everything for everyone to enjoy. Be safe and if you have any more questions feel free to drop me a note or PM me. If you want to talk live you can PM me and I'll get you my number.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks - great info. Sounds like it should be fun for everyone. Do I understand that you have to have a sled permit for Timberlakes?

Free parking at timberlakes.

The first 3 miles are as brutal as it gets.

My back is killing me:mad:

Riding out of TL itself is smooth and quick. You kinda need to know youre way around, could get lost easily, but for sure its the best way into tower area. Depending on the trail you choose the skill level will range from moderate to easy.

Sounds like I need to get in there before the big weekend and do a little recon. So I am assuming that once you leave TL itself, there is no marked or groomed trail? Is it difficult to get into TL for a preliminary run? Thanks all.

Its a gated area and you are supposed to have a cabin number on you dash board last time I checked. We just wait for someone to go in the gate in hurry in behind them, assuming there is no one in the guard shack at the time. There is limited parking and they are sticklers about it. There are multiple trails, not one that is the main. I dont know how to explain it, you will just have to explore it for yourself. Is a great area tho, our dream to have a cabin there. A few A$$wads but most of them live in the lower areas, most of the higher cabins are sledders.

I rode out of TL area today from the sled parking lot. The trail was super bumpy for the first mile or two (as always), but smoothed out pretty good after that, and we even passed the groomer on the way back in. As far as terrain goes, "Boss" has it right that there is stuff for everyone(fields, marked trail, climbs, boondocking, etc.). The big open fields tend to get a little wind blow (especially this time of year), but I was still able to find some great snow in some of the more secluded meadows. Have fun!
