Who is running AV gas with a SC APEX

Just wondering if anyone has been running AV gas in a SC Apex? I have read the debates and seen some turbo guys that have run it. Do you need to worry about changing the timing to run it due to the slower burn rate? I have been running 50/50 race/premium mix.

I don't think you need to do anything special. I have a head shim and have run Av gas before just to be safe and didn't have any problems. At your elevation are you sure you even need it? Stage 1 is only 10lbs. Check out the octane calculator at totally yamaha.

I have checked the calculator and comes out right at 91. I just figure a little more octane is cheap insurance. I really wouldn't worry about it at 10k feet....its that occasional road racin that takes place on the way up from the parking lot at closer to 6-7k feet.:D:face-icon-small-win

Have you moved your air intake up through the hood? That has done more for my kit's performance than any other change.

Unfortunately it is specific to Yamaha 4 stroke models. I'm sure you could create something similar using the basic idea.

I ran 50/50 race (VP) / premium gas last season then switched over to 100% AV gas the last 4 rides of the season, I didnt have any issues.
I am running at 10 lbs boost on my Apex.

MODSLDR has a stage 2 SC on his Nytro running 100% AV gas without any issues so I figured I would give it shot.
I dont mind mind mixing the gas but the AV gas is easy to get so am running it this season.

I didnt make any timing changes, if I wasnt comfortable running the AV gas I would switch back in heartbeat.

Thanks for the replys.

I have not moved my intake outside the hood yet. I was a little worried about my airfilter being left in a tree branch somewhere while boondocking around. Maybe I should stay a little further from the trees! Do you mostly notice the performance on the top end? Just curious.

I ran a stage II at 14lbs 50/50 110 no head shim..for 2 years. My elevation starts at 8000ft. Also ran a stage 1 for 2 years no shim and only mixed 1 gallon per tank. no problems at all. I also recomend getting your intake out!! Very easy to do and your machine will really wake up, unbeliveable.. I did that to both of my sc's and I could go thru the deep stuff without anymore bogging...
