Who hates their Nytro?

I didn't ride an apex last year I rode a arctic cat m7 that was all decked out. sold it and got the nytro and in stock form the nytro sucks. in deep pow it wont hardly go anywhere the track and running boards are terrible. It's like having an 1.5'' track with wings on the side. This sled needs alot of money thrown at it.

Couldn't agree MORE!!! Very disappointed with this machine in the steep and deep. The track, the running boards and the power all SUCK!!

I'm considering putting a longer track on to start...162" challenger extreme 2.25". Hoping this will help somewhat in stock form.

I am seriously questioning whether or not I want to put the $9,000-$10,000 into a turbo at this point vs. giving it to the wife for a trail sled and starting over with a 2-stroke and a few mods for FAR less money!!

Right now, this thing has NOTHING on my old Vertical Escape!! :mad:

But, I will say this, it handles and carves like nothing I have ever ridden! Just wish the cost of turbos hadn't gone up so much!!

I don't think in stock form many people looked at the Nytro as the machine to buy for the "steep and deep". With a 130hp and a 153" track it doesn't look like Yamaha intended it to climb like a mtn. goat. Defiantely designed more for boondocking. The stock machine has a broad appeal, whether you live in the west and like playing around in bowls, or if you live elsewhere and do not enjoy trail riding. If you bought a stock Nytro to only point uphill, you bought the wrong machine.

here we go again...

Are you all the same folks that bought a phazer last year and thought it was going to be the ultimate mountain sled?

If this sled had over 150 hp and a longer track, then I could see your complaints as valid. Not the case. swap the track or sell it.... Those are your options. OUT!

I didn't buy the nytro thinking it would be the best sled out there. I am changeing the tunnel,track and all the suspension and as soon as I can turbo or super charger. As far as a boondocking sled I guess it depends on what you call boondocking. A friend that I rode with just got a stage two super put on but did not have his 162'' track on yet it did not do much better. A nother guy had a stock nytro with a 162 2.5 track it did a little better then mine. the tunnel has to go.

I'll tell you something thing,if you want an altimate boon docker,don't supercharge it,it makes too much power to quickly,and spins down too fast.

we have been runing super chargers for a couple of years on the shop sled but I'v been thinking turbo. The trick to the super is a blow of valve with out that they are almost unrideable. I have never been on a sled with a turbo.

Most guys turn the track around , that seems to help .
Besides that we have a few Nytro turbos running here (with stock track) beating everything except other boosted Yamahas .
The stocker works fine if you compare it to its competition ---- the 600cc
2 strokes---That is what they came up with in snow cross!!!!!!

how has the shops full mod nytro been doing it sure looks nice you guys make nice stuff.:D:beer;:beer;

How do you guys have the rear suspensions set up? Mine has 850 miles on it, spins 9,260 (8,600 on the hill) and does awesome. It's very close to 800 Rev Summits(not XPs but Revs) and gets around in deep snow just fine.

If I can offer two basic tips that seem to be obvious but overlooked.

1. Don't grab a handfull of throttle if you're stopped
2. Use the low end torque to your advantage. The Nytro is sweet because it has so much low end you can just feather it alot of times. Most 2-strokes have a throttle that's basically on on/off switch. With the Nytro this isn't the case.

Or I just got an extra special super Nytro. I dunno, I haven't had any problems in deep snow or climbing yet.

that pretty much sums it up.

Any haters in the Spokane, North Idaho area who are feed up and ready to go a different direction drop me a PM, I would be interested in your sled if you really can't live with it.
Thanks

I also agree with Nikolai. Guys have complained about the Nytro trenching badly. I have noticed that if you are easy on the throttle you can feel the machine come up on top of the snow immediately.

You are very correct, and NO, I did not buy this machine to only point uphill, however, I did expect a bit more. Quite honestly, I don't think in stock form it will hang with a 600 in bottomless powder...which is what I have been riding.

With stock set-up, the machine was losing 1000-1200 rpm when you put it under load (powder climb). I have NEVER lost that kind of rpm before on any of my 2-strokes. Bottom line, it doesn't have the track speed to maintain flotation, thus, it begins to trench and hang up on the running boards.

I have made several changes and have gotten it better (geared down, rotated track, lighter primary weights, heavier primary and secondary springs, tightened secondary to 90 degrees, installed Shockwave adjustable helix). In fact, I was only dropping 500-600 rpm's last weekend, but it still needs help.

I think there are three factors contributing to this (aside from the terrible clutching): The machine needs a much better track with more flotation....longer and wider. The angle of the track to the snow appears to be VERY abrupt and too steep. This needs to be softened to help with the trenching. Finally, the running boards need a steeper taper and possibly narrowed a bit sooner as you go rearward.

Nikolai is correct when he says you need to start out slow and use the low end torque....figured this early!! If you gas it hard, you WILL be digging!!

In all fairness, I don't think I could ever give it up. In the flats and powder, I have never ridden a more fun machine. My biggest frustration I think, is with the price of turbo's today. I could be wrong, but it sure does seem like they took a BIG jump in price. Sure wish I could try one before I install to make sure this is the direction I want to go!

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent a bit guys!! :beer;

ok! lets take a little trip in time! 5-6 years ago a sled with 138hp and a 153 track would have been a mod sled? so where do you guys think this sled shouldnt be rated as a climbing mtn sled? when i had my mtn max 700 with a 141 track piped, ported and all the mods, what maybe 135-140 hp? i rode at all the same spots we are today! so dont give me this oh its a low hp sled and was designed to be a 600cc, wont climb! what a joke! just face up! it aint the great sled you hoped it was going to be! and as for being a 600 class sled? what 600 has 138hp? none! a700 dragon 137hp, put it in that class where it should be and watch it get a real beating!
