Who has upgraded shock packages and what are your thoughts

I will be switching mine out for the Keith Curtis Fox's over summer. I still like having a coil spring over air spring on a sled.

Buddy of mine didnt like he keith curtis shocks until they got revalved

If you can afford to change the suspension to a aftermarket suspension I would suggest doing this. IMHO can you make the stock suspension handle better?
Yes you can, but it will never be as good as a Kmod or a Mt tamer or an Ezride
I've tried many different shocks (Exit, Raptors,Fox,Elka's) on stock skids none even come close to delivering that bang for your buck as a full skid does.
It is more expensive but well worth it in the end.

I'd be worried that I would ruin the best skid transfer in the industry!

If running a stock engine, which aftermarket skid works best over the others? Or does it really not matter?

Just pulled the trigger on zbros. X2's in front and rts.
Cts is X1.
I'm gonna throw em in next week and ride 3 days so I oughta have a pretty good ride report by the 15th.
Also putting on Zbros 39 inch front end.

Well this is my first true upgrade in shock packages and I have to say I am very very impressed.
Lays into a hill with minimal effort. What happens after you lay into the hill is where the money is. I am a believer in this setup wrt side hilling steep! Foot of fresh with tracked up grenade holes and this sled just shaves right through all of it. It still takes work and you have to pay attention but the amount of work is cut in half.
Haven't ever felt the bottom of these yet and really haven't hit anything too hard but I felt the bottom of the stock shocks immediately and often. Ive bombed off 6-8 ft drops and hit plenty of jumps into flat landings and it is just soft. It reaches the bottom I am sure but you can't feel it. I had them setup the shock primarily based on boon docking so this is where the sled really shines w/ the zebros shocks. My confidence through the tight trees and picking a tight line with speed has skyrocketed due to the fact that I know the sled will go where I want it to, when I want it to. I am carving tight relentless aspects all day long with very few errors and I can attribute this at least in some part to the suspension.
They'll set em up just how you want them and if they don't get it right then send em back to them and they can make it right.
Is it worth the money? IDK? It was to me because I just happened to have it at the time. Seems like a pretty large chunk of cabbage to throw at the dang thing but I don't regret it one bit.

I have the stock piggy backs on mine and upgraded to Raptor Triple Rate Springs on all four shocks. For the money ($280 springs, $400 shock upgrade) I think it is a pretty good set up overall. I posted a thread on this set up and the Carl's clutch kit in this forum.:face-icon-small-coo

I have always had the the WE clickers on my RMKS/Assaults and have been super happy with them up until my 16. The shafts are smaller and the stock valving is sooooo soft. I weigh 190 and completely stroke out all shocks constantly even cranked up all the way. I did decide to spend the extra $400 dollars to upgrade again to what I assume will be the same crappy WE needle valve shocks they used on the 16's. I cant afford a whole new shock package but I plan to get them re-valved and possibly re-sprung. I wish they still used the Assault shock package when you upgraded like the snowcheck program for 2015.

I can only give you an opinion on the ezryde. I would not put one on a stock sled, yes they ride better in the bump and jumps but the sled is so planted on the throttle that it kills the playfulness of the sled. I have put an ezryde on my last two sleds one with boost and one without and you have to work harder with this skid. When you rip the throttle the sled will plant the track and go, if you are in a powder turn it will stand the sled back up unless you are committed. The carve helped to make this easier and I very much like the skid on my turbo but I will never put one one a NA sled unless the hp is dramaticly altered from stock. I have never ridden the other skids so I cant help you there.

I think you are a bit confused here. The assaults still have the needle shocks with the 5/8' shafts. The shocks on the 16 and up rmks are clicker shocks. They are not the same and they have the smaller 1/2" shafts. This is what I have on my sks as well and I plan on upgrading in the fall.

lol...not confused....thought that was what I said. Anyway, I will revalve/respring the WE clickers that come on my Snow check Pro. I wish that if you chose to upgrade your shock when ordering the Pro, you would get the 5/8" Assault shock package.

Sway bar

Are the piggy back WEs the same as on the assault? If not, do they run the sway bar like the monotubes do? I assume if yes, you go no sway bar like the assault and no sway bar on all other after market options as well

I love aftermarket shocks. Totally.

BUT, don't sell the adjustable OEM shocks short. Most people think that if they aren't happy with them, then you just pay up and buy expensive aftermarket shocks.

A little tuning and sometimes some valving and you will see a major difference in the performance of those shocks.

Most people don't know how to tune an adjustable shock with so many variables built in to them.
It's a lot of variables with thousands of combinations.
Some have up to 50 clicks on each adjuster.

  1. Spring preload.
  2. Low speed dampening.
  3. High speed dampening.
  4. Rebound.

Exit X1's

I have to throw in a huge thumbs up for the ZBroz Exit X-1's that I put on the front of my 2016 Axys. No doubt...about doubled the enjoyment I get out of the sled. They are SOOOOOOOOOO smooth through the beat up sections of trail and even a better benefit when you head through a tracked out meadow.

People who have the same sled and hop on mine with the X-1's just on the front cannot believe the difference they make.

I am doing the rears this summer:face-icon-small-hap
