Bought a Rhino in '05.......great, trouble free machine!
Only downfall is that it was simply too slow, 39 mph.

Had a '09 Prowler XTC, that was faster, about 65 mph.
The fit & finish was not in the same league as the Rhino.
No major issues, but a few minor ones.

I would LOVE a Rhino again if Yamaha would put a 80+ HP engine in it.
I love the smaller size of the Rhino vs the Ranger.

A Maverick or Razor would be fun, but I need the utility version to justify owning one again.

Interested to hear what others have had.

I don't own one....but I spent a bunch of time in a RZR 1000.

A little last summer in a two seater.

About 325 miles total in November in a four seater. 4 days of hunting. Deep snow. Powder and Crust. Some access to ride park, some quiet sneaking on a two-track trail. VERY nice!!!!

DING DING DING!!!! The four seater was SMOOOOOOOTH. And quieter than the two seater. I would have one. The 4 seat Ranger is cool, but the Rzr is much more versatile, IMO, for what I would use it for.

900 ranger here, rides great. Quiet , enought power for me. 3 seater so the kid sits between us where she's safe.
Power steering is a must no matter what you buy.
Didn't think I would like it but find my self going off somewhere in it every weekend of the summer.

900 ranger FTMFW. I am anti Polaris to the bone but I bit the bullet and bought one. I now have 7700 miles on it in 2 yrs. steering rack, ball joints, wheel bearings and u joints in the center shaft to the front is what I have replaced at about 6500 miles. I have full premium cab, heat, wiper, and tracks. this summer I will probably get a new one and switch all my extras over and sell the old one out right. I also had a rhino for 5 yrs. do your self a favor and go test drive one

Do any of you sometimes think....why in the hell don't I just get a Wrangler?

no, but I do tell people you can buy a new jeep for what these cost. Polaris id making a damn killing. I have 26k into mine with tracks

Is your Rhino the 450 or the 660?
I have a 2004 Rhino 660 and it will go over 45 MPH.
You can also upgrade the CDI http://www.blackrhinoperformance.co...-Performance-CDI-Rhino-660__PER450011-R6.aspx

It was a 660.
My buddy had the CDI box & his went close to 50, but sounded like it was reving like crazy doing it.
That is one thing I loved about the Prowler....at 60 I was running a way lower RPM than my buddy on his Commander.
But that Commander is wicked fast (and quicker)!

Another question:
It seems that I can get a Commander 1000 for about the same money as a 900 Ranger. This seems like a no-brainer? Why buy the Ranger?

what I love about the ranger is the engine is in the rear, its quiet, and no heat

He's right, no heat or noise from the 900.

Commander in nice but I needed a 3seater. A rhino is like driving with the brakes on compared to the 900

I also had a Rhino and put over 3000 miles on it. Great machine.
Skipped a few years and then bought a 800 Commander xt in camo. Another fantastic machine.
Family decided they wanted to play again so we sold the commander and bought a Rzr xp 1000 4 seater. We do a lot of rock climbing and duning so this machine is killer. But we are into now the price of two commanders.. So many add ons i couldn't stop...
Anyhow if I was looking for an all around great machine Id buy another 800 Commander.

I own a couple wildcats. Great suspension, ride is unreal. Had a '10 RZR S, the wildcats are twice the ride. The wildcat x is way more powerful than the base model, the only issuse is burning belts, have a MX track in my backyard, so it gets a good workout. Have driven everything on the market other than the rzr 1000. Selling wildcats for either a 4 seater maverick or XP 1000. Just havent decided which one!

Not sure if I'm too late on a reply...

We bought a 2014 Can-Am Commander 1000 LTD for essentially the same reasons you're looking. It has great power and traction, and I have zero complaints as far as what it is for. I used it to pull a high-centered lifted Jeep Renegade out of two feet of snow a couple of weeks ago. The six-level air ride suspension is unreal. The fit and finish as really good.

In hindsight, we don't use it for utility more than 2-3 days a year and going forward probably won't at all. Combined with the fact that it has about four inches less clearance than the RZRs and Wildcats, we would rather have the 4-seat RZR 900. We are in snow sporadically through mid-June and it does really well, but we are always the first ones stuck.

What about a Commander 1000 vs the ranger 900? I need the utility sxs so I don't want to go rzr but still would like something sporty for cruising back roads and maybe the dunes once a year. The commander seems sportier then the Ranger but the reliability makes me wonder about them.
