Who can spin balance a P-85 w/Doo taper??

Pretty sure Specialty Sleds up here can do it

I had an 05 Rev with the P85 for a while and it took out two clutches in two weeks ! Broke right on the spline where it had been machined from the inside.

Thanks, that encouraging! :) I have it at Wilderness sports getting balanced, keeping my fingers crossed.
I wonder why the Doo's are any harder on a P-85 than a Polaris??????

The first one, I say was torqued on too tight ! Second is anyones guess, I sent the sled back home after that:confused:

Theres a couple places in MT/bozeman area that can do it. I had one on my 05 rev and it was great paired up with a team secondary. I know there are quite a few guys around this area running p85's on ski-doos because Team Summit (ski-doo dealer) keeps them stocked and for sale...So that being the case as long as its done right you should be fine.

Don't know if I'd send a clutch to Bozeman Doo shop, I sent one down a few years ago for balancing, was a TRA. To take some weight off someone took a drill bit and made a bunch of random digs into the moveable sheave, no pattern to it at all. LOL, everytime someone sees that job, they ask WTH is that? I laugh and tell them it's a balanced clutch.

haha yeah...that doesn't surprise me...however did it work and was the clutch balances? Its not summit thats doing them, a guy down the road with a machine shop is. Can't think of his name at the moment.

I did that in 2001 on a new 800 doo ,,the weight diference between the two clutches is HUGE and the rotating inertia of a tra VS a P85 acts like a harmonic damper since the flywheel and weight of the doo damper/flywheel is balanced for the TRA you will also notice that when you get the P-85 on there that it will not pull as much weght as you expected because it acts much like a lightened flywheel in a car, I broke 2 P-85s at the base of the threads where the spider screws down, fun to get off the crank, I even had a bilit stainless spider made to fit the p-85 to make the p-85 weight the same as the TRA then it pulled almost 6 grams more per weight ,then it started to come around and acted like I thought ,, then the crank end broke off, I think that the harmonics that are created are much larger than we know, the TRA has a large rubber damper on the clutch for a reason,,,,, THE END.........

OK mabe not the end LOL,,,,another thing I tried on my race sled was to lighten the fly wheel for better aceleration ,,which it did,, then it ate clutch rollers and weight bushing almost every weekend , and at the end of the season when I went through the crankshaft the cases had bearing fretting in all the journals ,,like the crank was almost vibrating in the cases HARMONICs in the rotating asy is a BIG mystery?? Cat lightened the cranks on the 10-11 m-8 and I have seen many spiders explode including mine,, Could be the same effect!!!!! just a thought

I agree with you on the harmonics and with the issues on the 10's and 11's. My spider also shattered, what have you done to your's? Im thinking of trying another cat clutch and a billet spider.

Just buy a Pro. It comes with a P85 and a Team right out of the box. :boxing:

I'm not shure what the PUCK cat puts on the spider threads but I've taken 3 apart and wasted the threads!!! I found a spider part # from a F-cat that I will be using ,it will have to be reshimed as the spacing is different but it is a different metal for shure ,,the new spiders look like recycled coke cans ,,the old one look like what we have been using for years,, and The P-85 conversion is apealing but the smaller diameter will need a regear in the diamond drive,$$ and the P-85 has broken on my pro poo also!!!So I think its the big twin syndrome!~!
