Whittier

As of 11:00 am, the Glacier Ranger District of the Chugach National Forest and the Public Works administrator of the city of Whittier confirmed that Whittier (both city and National Forest) is still open for riding.

This is, of course, dependent on the snow conditions. But at this time, we are good to go.

If only you had 2 evil camera-wielding blonde henchwomen following you around while you ride, taking pictures every time you stop to pop the hood real quick...

It's rare I have to work on it these days...right..

good sunny day!

My first time to ride over on the whittier side it wasn't to bad warm spring snow step off your machine 6 to 8 inches deep we went over the top and down across burns glacier up the other side snow was better but packing as the wind blew 20 to 30 mph. then played down in the trees going out of the bay till we couldn't drop down any lower, so we called it a day!!:D

i can show you how to work up 25 lbs...40oz at a time...

boy, the guard just packs the weight on me...maybe i should exer....nevermind

haha... that is awesome. I think i'm done w/ the guard until august/sept - i'm working out of the laborer's union this summer. hit me up if you wanna get in a last ride, i'm headed to whittier right now.

This is what I found on Chugach web site 5/1, here is little shorter version.
http://www.fs.fed.us/r10/chugach/

SEVERAL AREAS REMAIN OPEN
Seasonal snowmachine use closures for most of the Chugach National Forest are in effect beginning May 1st. The normal closure date for over the snow vehicles is May 1, however, due to above average snow depth the following areas will remain open:

1) Turnagain Pass area beginning at Bertha Creek Campground and extending north into the Pass.
2) Lost Lake area as accessed by Snug Harbor Road
3) Forest Service land above Whittier.

We will be measuring snow depths weekly and when they go under acceptable levels, the area will be closed. Areas may close with little notice, so check our website at www.fs.fed.us/r10/chugach for the latest information.

Individuals interested in motorized use on the Chugach National Forest are encouraged to call one of the following Forest Service offices to find out about snowmachining opportunities:

Glacier District Office (Girdwood): 907-783-3242
Cordova District Office: 907-424-7661
Seward District Office: 907-224-3374
Anchorage Supervisor’s Office: 907-743-9500

Is anybody from Valley or Anchorage riding this weekend? I'd love to join in, have 2 place trailer.
Have fun riding!

Thanks for the post Dash. Folks, need to remeber that the Forest Service stepped up and did the right thing by leaving these areas open. It would have been far easier for them to just let the calender rule!!! We may not always agree with their decisions, but we do need to be thankfull when they make the correct one.:)
